Charging system problems

Post by 72bajaben »

so go figure im having another problem. this one has been going on for a while but now i have to get it fixed, cause i got a job yesterday.

So after i rewired my car everything was working great, not my charging system isnt working. when i turn my ignition on my dummy light comes of, nice and bright. when i turn it over and give it some RPM's the lights doesnt go out, it just dim's down. and my battery doesnt get charged. i tried replacing the wires, didnt work, i tried a new light, didnt work. i dont know what else to do besides taking the alt out and taking it in to get tested. but i really dont want to do that. do you think that my alt is going bad and doesnt want to work anymore. what do you guys think is going on.

It sounds to me like the alternator/regulator and not functioning properly.

when i bypassed the dummy light the alt puts out 22 - 25 volts. i dont think that is right.

your voltage makes it sound as if the alternator is alternating.. makes it sound as if the regulator isn't regulating.

IF you have an old-school repair place, they can take it apart for under $100
