Axle + undercarriage painting tips

Post by zazothex »

I'm putting a new tranny into the ghia and am using the old axles. They are in good shape, but the PO's paintjob on them is shot. What's the best way to remove it (it's thick enough to peel off in chunks) and then what should I use to repaint them? I'm also thinking about redoing the whole tranny as well -what should I use and how to put it on?

i think they were originally powder coated. easiest way to get it off is probably to scrape it. then i'd scuff em up and put some POR 15 on them

Thanks. Any thought that the best way to color/ cover the POR would be afterards? I'm hoping just a few coats of krylon as long as I touch it up now and then.

i'd leave straight POR 15, unless you want a color that it doesnt come in.
