Battery help

Can someone explain to me how i can hook 2 battery up in my car and still have 12 volts. i know that there is 2 ways to do it. one give you 12 volts and alot of amps and the other give your 24 volts and low amps. i think....really i have no idea. but anyway i was thinking of my amp consumption tonight because i am going to be adding a winch to my setup sometime soon. and they are needy when it comes to amps. so if someone can help me out and explain all this to me it would be great.

hook the batteries in parallel + to + - to - then bring a connection from the positive and negative pins of one of the batteries

Are you planning on running your lights and such a lot with the car off? If you are mostly going to need the power while running, why not just invest in a higher output alternator?

also do you think that this is a good idea? will this put undo strain on my alt? is there a better way of going about the amp issue?

Because i just bought the alt that i just installed. and i dont think that i can convince my wife to let me spend 250 300$ on an alternator when i just bought one. lol

I see. What kind of battery are you running now?

I dont see why it wouldnt solve your problem. But If youre running that many amps just make sure the alt can keep up because it wont charge as efficiently with both batteries. It might be worse to have 2 dead batteries than just one

im not running anyhting special. do you think that it would be better to just carry a second battery and hook it up when i need it? my alt is only a 55 amp....i think.

55 amp should be good i run a 1600 wat amp with a 1 farat capator to a 15 inch sub and my head lights on my volts are at 12.4 with them off i have 12.7 to 14 volts
