Dash Gauge Sub-Harness

Every car has an electrical system. Here's the place to learn all about it.

Now that I have established what the design will look like I placed an order through Del-City for the individual items that I will need. It appears that the end result will not be a huge savings over purchasing a pre-made assembly, estimated cost should be around $50.00 to $60.00 for the complete sub-harness. However, this harness will be custom fitted to the vehicle and (hopefully) have better components and fit my specific requirements. All there is to do now is wait for the items to arrive then break out the pegboard and golf tees and make a harness, or at least that is the intent.

Well, one thing about Del-City and Waytek is that they take forever in sending out an order. On average, a web order takes about 10 days before you will get it. On the other hand, J&M Products had the wire to me in only a few days.

Had some time to kill and thought I would give the gauge sub-harness a go. Took measurements concerning gauge distance, spacing and harness mounting. Then I transferred that to a peg board with golf tees; laid out the wire in sequence then snugged everything up. Next I took the harness and "dry-fit" it to the back of the dash... just to make sure. Then I crimped and soldered the Weatherpack connections. I left everything about 6-8 inches too long for final fit. I will do a continuity check to each wire and a short check after I terminate the wires. Then, hopefully, everything will work as planned.

The proof will be in the "puddin" once I get the dash back from the powdercoater...
