Tach Pegged out!

Post by AirJose »

Hi: I am not an electrical wizard but I routed wires to the coil to connect a porsche tachometer in my KG dash. I believe I got these wire crossed or something. The tach has: a ground, + and 12 connectors. Please tell me how I should I wire this thing, because when I move the swith to start it pegs out.
Thanks, Jose

Is the guage a VDO brand or something else?

I have a hunch will wait for a smarter person who knows.

It is a VDO Porsche tachometer from an older 912

Is there the chance you're running a 6 volt tach on 12 volts?

Not really. All 912 as well as 911 from 1965 on are 12 Volts. I looked at the connectors in the rear of the tach, it has the following: "+12" "1" and "-". I hope this helps.

I have an old Porsche tach as well in my ghia. I'm running 12V in my '66. I used one of the rear flasher wires (white + black stripes) and hooked it from the input (1) terminal of the tach and to the coil. I had to jumper the flashers then. Or You could run a separate wire along the loom.

let me see if I got this. the "1" in the back of the tach goes to terminal 1 on the Coil. Is that the same side/connector where the condenser cable goes? ( I believe the coil has a "15" and "1" connectors)
