Opinions on Dupont Centari

Post by Mike Kayer »

Anyone have an opinion on Dupont Centari paint? Went into a local shop trying to price out paint, and the guy there was pushing this stuff pretty hard. I've used Nason primers, so I wanted to stick with either Nason or Dupont, but the guy basically said the Nason topcoats are crap, and if I plan on keeping the car, go with the Centari. It's an acrylic enamel, single stage. I was hoping to price out urethane, and bc/cc, but he said Dupont only makes my color (L31F iberian red) in single stage acrylic enamel, but if I wanted bc/cc, Nason was available.

The price on this stuff seems o.k., but I'm not sure if I should use this or shop around for a brand that makes a urethane in my color.

Thoughts?

I used Dupont Centari to paint my bug, single stage too and it was a nice product. Now if I had to paint it again and two stage was available I would certainly go with the two stage paint 8)

BTW I never used Nason paint but I read on autobody forums that it's used a lot, don't think it's "crap" like the guy said...

cheers

My friends Chevy truck is painted with centari. 6 years of daily driving and its still getting complements. And its red. for my 70, I'm using PPG Shopline. It seems to lay down smooth and buffs easy.

I love Nason base and clear. I have used it several times at the shop and on my scooter. It covers better IMO than anything in it price range.

Centari finishes very nicely. Mix the last coat 1 -1 with some of the enamel clearcoat and the finished shine ends ups looking beautiful.

I had my bug painted w/ the single state dc paint a few years ago. It didn't hold a shine for long after waxing, and it pealed off in a few places. It was the painters fault I think, but I'll never use a single stage again.
