Luggage compartment shelf about out

I found nearly all the spot welds in the engine compartment. They weren't the round spot welds that I was expecting. Actually they were depressed slots roughly a half inch width. I drilled through the center of each slot using a quarter inch drill bit then using a chisel and hammer split whatever remained of each weld. It wasn't as hard as I expected.

Part of the compartment shelf has good metal. I'll be able to use a lot of it to patch holes in the front end. I've never taken a good look at the doors. If they have the same degree of rust that the rest of the body has, hopefully I can patch using the shelf.

Well not completely out. The top is unattached by welds, the bottom is unattached by rust but there's a vaguely arch-shaped piece that is still holding the tray in. It's visible at the bottom of the photo. The new tray has that piece already attached. I cut half the welds so far with a reciprocating saw. When I get the tray out I should be able to see where that arch is attached so I know where to weld the new one.

Right now the body looks like a junkyard car that's been cannabalized for sheetmetal parts.

The compartment shelf is out! I took photos but the computer isn't letting send them. With the old shelf out I can see how the new shelf should fit. So I tried putting it in to see how it fits. There is damage to one wheelhouse that was fixed with tons of weld. Because of that it won't go in place unless I use a hammer and I won't do that. But I can see now the next step. First thing is make sure all the fender nuts are well mounted, which should be easy with the tray out of the way. Then if I cut out both wheelhouses the shelf will fit. Sounds easy, huh?
