I have rust holes on both sides of my 67 bug right where the heater channels attach to the rear crossmember. I can see through to the rear tire. How do you replace the crossmembers ? Are there spot welds holding them in inside the car or how are they attached ? How hard of a job are we looking at ?
Also is there a replacement piece that goes inside the rear wheel well on the opposite side of the crossmember - like a splash guard or something ?
Thanks

The area in your pic where you have the new metal welded in is about where my problem is. Right where the heater channel ends and is normally welded to the crossmember it is rusted through to the outside of the car. --through the wheel well. Both sides are the same, the crossmember is rusted out and possibly a piece in the wheel well on the outside ?

This is what I see after putting a new heater channel in. I assume the cross member is welded here. Pretty much needs to be a body-off job from what I can tell.
