Coil wire feels HOT
I've started working on my '65 6-volt Bug again. I had the starter rebuilt and it started fine for only a couple of times. Now it won't turn over at all. So thinking I have a problem with the ignition I turned on the key and went to check to see if I had power at the coil. When I got back there I found that one of the wires coming from the coil felt really hot and was getting hotter. So thinking there was a ground issue I changed out the ground from the battery and also the ground from the transaxle to the frame. Still doing the same thing. And a little bit of smoke was coming from the voltage regulator/generator area. When they rebuilt the starter they didn't change out the selonoid because they couldn't find one. Could this be the problem? Is that wire from the coil supposed to be getting that hot? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Agreeing with MNAirHead, check the choke wire that it's not mashed
somewhere.
Would you take a closer look at where the smoke was coming from
on the Gen/Reg? Maybe a red herring if the choke wire was the cause.
If the starter still won't crank, post back for some tests to do.
