Airbag question???
I'm not trying to auto-X my 67 swingaxle but would not a properly setup airbag system with swaybars, camber compensator, on a bug riding on 18" Porsche alloys with 35 series tires handle and ride better than the same in a stock configuration? I've always imagined that an airbaged VW would have a lot of body roll.

Re: Airbag question???
This idea was kicked around on vwvortex for a while earlier this year, airbags are starting to get more popular in racing. Do a search for airbags and autocross. The roll effect you're talking about isn't a factor anymore, the racing systems have individual lines and a separate control valve to regulate the spring rate to each wheel. I'm not sure exactly how it works, but the old scenario of more air makes the car raise up and the bag stiffer isn't the case anymore with this system. The ride height is regulated by one valve and the spring rate by another. I'd be interested to see if someone would run that system on a bug.Derrick from NC wrote:I'm not trying to auto-X my 67 swingaxle but would not a properly setup airbag system with swaybars, camber compensator, on a bug riding on 18" Porsche alloys with 35 series tires handle and ride better than the same in a stock configuration? I've been curious about such systems as well.
