hazard signal switch posts

Post by JimA »

My hazard signals don't work but all the turn signals do work. On the hazard signal switch there are two posts that I can't find on any schematics: posts 54 and 54f. Does anyone know how these two are to be wired up?

Sounds like you have a bus hazard switch - since they use the same bulb filament for brake & t'signal functions, their brake light power has to be routed through the hazard switch. I think that you can use that switch on a bug with those terminals not connected.
Since your turn signals work, you obviously have power available to Term 15 on the hazard switch...but have you checked to see if power is present on Term 30? ...besides throwing the left & right sides in parallel when the knob is pulled out, the hazard switch selects the power source to the flasher (the + terminal). Two separate fuses are involved, since the t'signals only work with the ignition on and the 4-ways work regardless.

Bus schematic showing how they use 54 & 54f:

Check Fuse #9.
The Hazard function uses the same flasher relay but gets power
from a separate fuse than the Turn signals.

As noted, 54, 54f aren't used on your car; that may be a "universal"
replacement switch.
