Newbie Question - hail damage

Post by Joshan »

So I am pretty new to all of this and trying to get some hail damage out of my car.

Will a suction cup like this work
http://www.usatoolmart.com/BodyRepair-1 ... uller.html

or do I need to go for a glue puller thing like this

I know there are the paintless dent repair tools also but those look real confusing.

Hope you don't mind, I fixed your links.

That first suction cup looks like what workers use to grip/lift sheet glass.

The second tool is advertised for "minor dents", whatever that is........

Do you have any pics of the damage?
So you think your project is taking forever eh? Well you've got nothing on me.....

There is a technique where you heat steel and then quick freeze the area with dry ice.

Is the car painted or a project?

I will grab the camera and try to get some pics showing the damage, it is a newer car with factory paint job.

I noticed this one says it will remove hail dents. Do these actually work?

For $250, I think you can pay to have the damage professionally removed. I have seen this tool before and it will remove "some dents" IF you know how to use the tool. It's not rocket science, but I think you have to anticipate not being an expert right away. If any of your dents have creased the metal or cracked the paint, this tool won't fix it.

The hail repair places in my part of the country can do an amazing job. It's worth looking into.

One thing you can try on minor dents is to let your car sit in the sun (or under a hot lamp) until the metal gets real warm and then apply ice or dry ice right on the dent. Works better than most people think.

Hope that helps. Pics will get you more specific comments.

Good luck,
