old Baja new paint

I have had this one since 1990. It was a loaner for friend who did not have one. It got stolen Christmas eve 1996. We got Baja back in a month. The court held the engine for evidence for another two years. It was locked out from sitting outside in the rain. It sat till last year. It going back to a mild Baja like it was before.

The rear fenders and spoiler were ripped off.
I started by reglassing the remaining fiberglass. I did learn bees love the smell of the resin.
Next it got dissasembled to a rolling shell. I only had to strip off one coat of paint. I sandblasted the rusty spots, straighten the panels and applied Valspar DTM primer followed by ureathane primer.

It lost its padded dash. I welded up some of the extra openings in the dash.

Next came a trial fit of the glass parts and redrill some of the mounting holes.

I've spent the next 8 hours block sanding what I thought was the last coat of primer. I found several spots that still needed some attention.

Nice smoothing work. I"m a fan of welding shut any exrtra holes on a baja.

Any clue of your color choice?

Color was dictated by what was availiable from the paint stores mismatched selection Valspar acrylic enamal solid colors:
The nose and fenders will be Chevy fleet white
Royal blue lower body below factory mouldings which will carry into the interior.
Sky blue for the roof, upper body and upper half of interior.

MN suggest away. I still have to block sand several bad spots. I have no clue why I'm trying to make it nice. I can't wait to see my WCM bill. Good thing one gallon and three quarts of acrylic enamel only cost $45.00.

I picked up my stock Baja project from the paint shop yesterday. It has been done for a week but I wanted to give the paint some time to cure. I was going to just rent Jasons spray booth but but ended up having him shoot it. Its single stage Valspar acriclic enamel. I should be getting a big box from WCM soon the the hard part will begin not scratching anything while reassembling.

To help with scratching..

Give it a few days to cure.. then use masking tape for stuff that you think can scratch (windows etc)

Thanks. I plan on letting it sit for two weeks. I'm usually in a rush to assemble as soon as I start unmasking. I purposely did not order the rubber kits so I don't jump the gun.

I usually use Trojans. Here in Az. the Brazilian rubber goes bad in a year or less. Have you tried any other vendors brand other than West Coast Metric that works?
