wheel paint removal

wondering what the best method for removing the black paint from my 2 liter Porsche wheels is?

If you have time (and these are steel), you can dunk them in a chemical dip.

OR

Are your rims aluminum?

they are aluminum. looks like paint not powder coat on them.

Glad we asked.

The bummer is that Aluminum is a soft metal.. just about any mechanical abrasive will "brush" the aluminum.

Chemical dips may "pit" your material.

It will take me a few weeks, I can ask the chemist at work what he suggests.

Most any really hot solvent stripper will do the job. Something without any sodium hydroxide or acids. Just solvent. You can than scrub away everything after it starts to bubble up with a softer non-scratch version of a scotch brite pad.
You may also get good results from taking the wheels to the same place you have your aluminum engine block hot dipped. Ray

Ray good point.

Wouldnt' be bad to soak a small piece of thin aluminum trim in the material to ensure it isn't corrosive.
