Parted out a vanagon with a 2,1 DJ engine last weekend and was hoping for som usable engineparts.This is what i found :
I suspected something wrong when driving this car... noisy engine sound and vibrating clutch. had the car up in 50 mp/h..... :)

Wow! That's practically unheard-of with a wbx crank. Wonder what they did to make that happen. And of course, it still ran.

It happend suddenly according to the prev owner on town driving.
It was plenty of oil on it.
Never heard of a wassercrank splitting though , but some type one's
Problems with the casting i asume.

seen it done in a bug I took apart, the high spots wear real smooth, looked like it had been driven on for some time before being pulled. Gotta love VW
give a man a watch and he'll allways know what time it is. give him two and he can never be sure again.

Things are rarely just crazy enough to work, but they're frequently just crazy enough to fail hilariously.

What a strange way to break!
I would assume it to break radial thru a con rod journal and not axial thru the counter weight !? :roll:

thats exactly where it broke on the bug as well. the rod journals, since they are machined in, are stress focus points, even with a radius, so its gonna give there when the whole thing starts aflexin.
