Can you fellows that have already bought a set of these pistons tell me how they compare in quality to the original german ones? (regarding the piston, not pins and rings)
Do you think that they would tolerate more abuse (rpm) than the original german pistons?

They are a cast piston with no steel support as in the stock vw piston, but the overall look of the piston is very good has a coating on the sides of the pistons & is a bit lighter than the stock VW 94mm I checked the ring grooves, comp. height, & CCs all where with in specks. But as the engine builder you MUST check ALL that yourself. Check piston to cylinder wall clearance I use a bore gauge. Thanks Rocky

As far as abuse I dont know. Are they as good as the german pistons? I really can't say. I will have more on them after we do more R&D.

Just a little new info on the QSC sets:

I've used several more sets of these, on overlength rods and with the tops shaved to raise the static CR.

QSC has fixed the wrist pin issue; the pins now supplied fit between the clips as they should. Some are not that snug a fit in the piston bores but none have been so loose that they were unserviceable, they just don't take much finger pressure to push them thru.

The rings now supplied are plain cast iron as the old ones were, but the top two rings are now the correct width for the grooves, with .003" side clearance. The oil ring, though, still has overmuch side clearance of about .006". So you could go with the supplied top rings if you could get wider oil rings by themselves. I have no actual usage to report on the top rings, though, as I'm still replacing the entire set.

I'm finding that about half the barrels have more than .001" out-of-round, just based on a few sets. Shouldn't have bought that bore gauge! So I'm selecting those that are under .001", using them as a set when I have four, and I'm going to have a bunch of the OEM jugs bored for 96mm locally to make up the difference.

(By the way, I also inside miked some of the used OEM jugs. I couldn't get .001" out-of-round on any of them; they're almost perfectly round. Cylinders and pistons wear very very well on the wbx due to the wet-sleeve design; the cylinder cooling is outstanding and there are no non-symmetrical stresses because the jugs are freestanding.)

So the value of the set goes down and down, but it's still pretty cheap for four oversized pistons since there is only one alternative that costs almost twice as much, when I dd it all up. There's a lot of extra legwork required to get the QSC's to work as a good, close-tolerance setup. For casual rebuilders without the knowledge of how to solve these problems the GW set is the only plug'n'play setup in town.

Nice one Chris, opened any up after a few miles yet?

With the dollar gaining so much I will have to look at these again...

Yeah I tore into my daily to try a different cam. The pistons were like new, no scoring or signs of anything amiss, after a good 10k miles.
