Sure. Fitting a 90mm stroke in a wasserboxer is not much different than in a Type 1. There's other issues with using a crank with that large of stroke, but it really isn't affected by the case (unless you have the budget to run a Pauter big block).

Case

sorry no budget for pauter :(

If I understunds right the case would work great fo my needs?
Is it best to use typ 4 or 1 crank?
could be that I use 88 crank instead.

A Type 4 crank does not fit into the wasser case; the bore spacing is completely different. Search this forum to learn about what options you have fitting a Type 1 crank into the different wasser cases (1.9 requires different work than the 2.1).

The concern is that the large increase in stroke decreases overlap between the rod and main journals...that is where the strength of your crank lies. While a 411 center main would strengthen such a crank, I don't believe it is optimal for a turbo'd race engine...I would opt for a larger main journal on such an application (like the ford/chrysler mains Pauter can run on their big block).

The following is just my opinion, so feel free to disagree. You are building a turbocharged race engine...thus, you are going to be making your power off boost, not displacement (Eric Calabrese in the Red Baron is running mid/low 8's on a turbo'd 2276...think about it). I would build the engine to have the strongest bottom-end possible. Don't compromise your engine by trying to push a lot of HP through a crank that is going to flex. If it were my engine, 76mm stroke with all 411 mains...and the 4" pistons will put your displacement around 2.5L. Add lots of boost and enjoy!

For a race engine, AutoCraft (or Pauter). IIRC, Heads Up Performance was selling bare AutoCraft castings for around $800 a pair (no guides, no seats, no port work)...of course, full-tilt heads run upwards of $4000 or more.

I think there may be a set or two floating around on the Samba, including a set that has already had the 6-bolt rocker conversion being sold by Jack Sacchette (which Rocky Jennings also does...I don't know if he modified those heads, though).

I can't seem to find the ones I thought Jack was selling. I did see these: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... ?id=702990 While it looks like a deal (the rocker conversion costs some $$$), the intake ports appear to have been butchered from the pics. I can't tell for sure, but a bit of work might clean that up...maybe.

Here are the Component Development heads...bare but ready for the gamut of work necessary on a true race engine: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/ ... ?id=649671
