What does one have to do to install a rear sway bar on a 70 Standard Beetle?

Hi Bigmeat,

There are two common rear sway bar mount setups, one in which the bar is held to the chassis by a clamp arrangment, and one in which you have to drill holes in the frame horns and slip in "U" bolts.

Whiteline, for instance, uses clamps. AddCo makes you drill holes.

There are also different ways to attach the end of the bar to the shock bolts, but these are minor.

The important thing is to first have a front bar as thick as if not thicker than the rear bar. A rear bar really changes a VW's handling, making it respond much quicker to changes in direction.

Too much front bar and you just understeer. Too much rear bar and you leave the road backasswards.

I can't say what brand I have (second hand from a swap meet) but the one I use has this style round clamps that attach to the torsion housing. It is rather fast to install, just add an L bracket to the swing plate and connect the down links.
