As we don't have a "brakes" forum I figure this is as appropriate here as anywhere:
From vwvortex brake forum FAQ---
http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/bleeder.htm
Prebuilt versions that may be cheaper than the DIY shopping list:

Link also contains a reasonably priced oil sucker, suck the oil out of the sump via the dipstick hole.

Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.

Had to update the title $$ to allow for inflation,
also added link to a commercial version that may end up cheaper.
Added attribution, I do WC too, so I hit the vortex as well as here occasionally. Found the info there.
Neat oil change tool on the motive link as well, sucks it out the dipstick hole. On some cars that is a lifesaver...

Follow up to this---
Just bought an "OEM" brand Mity-Vac at autozone for $29.99.
It really IS a Mity-Vac, and can be used for vacuum bleeding or as a small pressure source, has all the adapters etc.
These are the modern version that is in plastic, so it can't really be used as a pressure tester.
Orealys sells the same unit in a Mity-Vac box for ~$40+ and I'm sure Sears et al gets even more.
