Anyone have used the stock VW crank sensor (instead of the EDIS sensor) together with the EDIS module for Megasquirt /megajolt.?
the sensor is on Mexico cases , WBX and most of the type 4 .
Tried one Stock sensor yesterday , but no signal out of it what so ever.
suspect a broken sensor though
The sensor that is used for diagnostic, is it?
In the middle of a project of machining the flywheel to a 36-1 trigger pattern.
The stock sensor was for TDC measurements when hooked up to a diagnostic setup at the dealers.
I want to say it was a VR, but only going by very dusty memory.
To see a signal from a VR, a small current must be running through it, you see a change in the "output".
I'd want something new(er) anyway, there are lots that would work in that location, the one used on later WCVW would work fine, mounts on the front of the block by the flywheel, 9mm hex bolt retains it. IIRC that's a Hall.
Addendum to Newtons first law:
zero vehicles on jackstands, square gets a fresh 090 and 1911, cabby gets a blower.
EZ3.6 Vanagon after that.(mounted, needs everything finished) then Creamsicle.
thx Pile
The EDIS is also a VR sensor.
We hooked up a multimeter on the EDIS sensor , and it generated a ~1.5-2 V AC and also gave strong signal on the RPM setting.
running the flywheel in the Lathe on 1000RPM
Does the EDIS sensor fit/reach in the existing hole? (Or reasonably close?)
If you're using EDIS, a VR sensor is the only option.

i'll test a couple of other stock sensors.
the EDIS sensor is long enough and will fit with with a modified bracket.
but it would be cool running the stock sensor /bracket
4 VW sensors later and no signal.
in the meantime my friend mr Thingelstad has machined the flywheel ready.now i "Only" need to assemble the engine and test this solution
here's the flywheel and his own way of packing

That seems kinda low - my VR sensor with a ford trigger wheel generates 10v peak to peak... and that's at idle. I believe the voltages goes up with RPM. I can't remember the minimum voltage required for EDIS.
that flywheel is HOT. thats what i have plannede for my pickup, not on the pulley end. would rather have that nice and clean looking as opposed to cluttered up with sensors and such.
does that flywheel only go on one way? would the 8 doweled cranks/flywheels be the same, only going on one way?
well we used only and old analogue voltmeter.
maybe we've seen higher voltage on a scope. RMS vs peak etc.
the sensor's was tested on a stock EDIS triggerwheel only at a few hundred RPM's.
the WBX and Type4 flywheels have pilot hole making it only fit one way.
i asume the 8 doweling is offset??

Sorry to jump in in the midst of a thread, but i dont think that is what was asked for. the Type 4 uses a completly diffrent pully attachment system when converted to upright, since you are bolting a pully in place of a fan.
