Lotrat's Budget Baja Build

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Its the silly German way of measuring offset from the center.

"EinpressTiefe" or "ET" Value

The distance between the rim's center line and its
mounting surface.

Now see why I was pulling up your thread no one else on the entire STF would know that.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

The Marathon wheels suck up front. I had to flatten the pan lip and put longer steering stops in to stop the tires from rubbing. Swing wide baby, swing wide... They are fine off road. I just got sick of looking for another pair of Jackman's for the front and they were free...

Would that statement be true if they were on a stock bug with stock suspension and tire sizes?

I would say no. There were lots of stock wheels that used the same specs as the Marathon wheel. Check this sweet link out:

Ok I nominate this thread to be added to the build threads.

Got me some new tires today. Well, they're new to me. My first set of re-treads!

I've never seen retreads before, so I didn't know what to expect. The tread looks great. The sidewalls look terrible. They look like my wife has been trying to parallel park with them. The white lettering is really chewed, but that may be due to the re-tread process. They balanced ok, but they only guarantee them to be within 8oz. Time will tell how they perform.

Biggest problem I knew of retreads was overloading which heated the tire up and then it would separate. Look good but what is important is how they ride and perform.

Not real worried about my stock motor ripping them up. Ricko and Birddog have been running a set for awhile. Herbie just got a pair too. My BFGs were bald and I'm broke. Re-treads were a good solution.
