Poor guys Things - a mild couple of dual sports.

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

I have the saginaw on my rail and the front end is not light by any means though not as heavy as yours will probably be but that saginaw box is great, it is tough and handles like power steering. The only downside to it is the weight but I imagine that a R&P with a power steering unit, pump and lines together would weigh just as much.

How can keep the rack at the same position (front/ rear) while using a pitman arm ? any pics of that setup ?

I have no idea how G-r-D is going to do it (that guys is crazy anyway), but check out a Ploaris ATV for a good example.

The spreader bar will have a swing set and drag link. I'll post a pic here soon. Here is a tease. Bump, droop and ride. 20.5" of travel. It is going to be real tight for full bump and full lock. Does that ever really happen? I have never come down to full bump without speed and with full lock it would be a roll over. I don't hink I can talk Denny into another 4-6" of track width.

That is too much travel, I mean you might need it but if you was going west and need to go east you just might end up sittin on top of a ice berg in the bearing strait. Very nice work.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

Ok Spazzy, we are at 80 ish now. At best you will have 2" on each side. If the weather is crap I will pull a drum and rear wheel off blue to see about clearance. I think we are out of width now and if we have to we can push the front a inch or two.

Did a little playing. True track is going to be 81. New tire will be a 31x10.5 or 9.5. I may be able to fit a 33 if I open the wheel well. The white car may get that anyway since the rust needs cutting out. As stock the 31 clears by a 1/2" on bump and lock. The mock up put some needed wind in my sails.....and resulted in me tightening my wheel bearings. The close eye will notice there is a right spindle on the left...since the right was loose on blue anyway.

Here is where I am going with the steering. Still have a lot of work to do, but it gives you the idea. Packaging is difficult, since some things must be where they are and others have to work around them.

Can you get a better camera angle of the rack?

The only real added weight is the Saginaw gear. Spreader would be the same as a Howe. The swingers are going to be billet alum. It won't be significant weight wise-cost wise-major difference!

The idea is from Geiser Bros. and Alumi-Craft trophy trucks. Not too common but the swinger helps to eliminate bumpsteer while off center.

That's interesting. I would expect the swing-set to mildly increase the bump-steer when off-center since there will be some vertical displacement of the tie rod's inner pivot location. My guess is that it wouldn't be enough to really matter, just enough to be measurable. Obviously longer swing-links would reduce this, but then we're back to the packaging thing again.....
