Type 1 vs. Type 4
Well, well, the left coast vs the Confederacy.
Thanks for the insightful info Dan/Daryll (only insomuch as I'll not be recommending your vids to a single soul I know).
It would seem somebody pee'd in both of your Cornflakes.
There are plenty of nice cars around, both Type 4 and Type 1. Which is better? Depends on what you do. Ok, let it die, nobody will agree, except that this is turning into childlike drivel. Who's the fool, the fool or the man that argues with a fool?
Dan you have drug your business, as well as Jakes, and Rimco (unwittingly)through this verbal crap. In my line of business, this is where the lawyers usually step in.

BTW the word is spelled PAROLE.
Oh, and as to the spelling of your name, ask me if I give a damn.

Type 1 vs. Type 4
Ok guys! I think it is time for you all to calm down and get back to the real purpose of this forum!
I have been lurking for some time here and you all have gone through a lot of abuse towards each other! It is all obvious that we love our VW'S and that we all have our own personal opinion on how an engine should be built either Type I or Type IV, it is totally up to that one person of what he or she wants.
Its time to get back to what we all do best, talk about our VW's not slander at each others throats!
As for the Georgia comments, if you have never meet a Georgia hick, then you have nothing to say about us. If you don't have nothing nice to say don't say it at all!
As for my comment on the Type I versus Type IV, it is all realivent to what kind that will suit you. I will be recieving a 1970cc Type IV for the 73 Squareback of mine and can't wait till I can take it out on the road this fall!
As for the Type I VS Type IV engine Blow, somehow I know this will occur as Jake loves engine blows! He will even do it at a local club meeting!
Good luck everyone on your projects, from the lady in the Southeast.
P.S. Check out my Tech article in the July issue of VW Trends!

Type 1 vs. Type 4
OK, money where your mouth is (I've been kinda' quiet).
I have $1K I'll put up on Jakes's engine vs. a Type 1 for an extended run of 130+hp on a dyno, over 2 hours straight.
$1K, and that's no BS. Put up or shut up.
Any takers?
T-1s make more power, but T-4s will make power and run cooler, the concept is simple to me (but I'm an engineer, what do I know).

Type 1 vs. Type 4
Jake,
Exactly what size t4 and how is it going to be set up, exactly?
I have a 1776cc with 7.3:1 CR, WEB119 cam, VW 1.1:1's, Fred Simpson V6's, Straight cuts, MSD w/ 6AL, BAS 1 5/8" Road racer, Dual 40mm Dells. Revs to 5,000RPM safely per WEB Cam.
Just a thought, I'm curious about the "purse" more than the test! LOL
This post does not bind contract!!

Here are the rules. ANY size engine allowed, stock based heads must be run. You can run a 911 fan if you want, on either engine.
Dyno runs are 1 hour per run. Start at 130hp. Next run (IF) is 150hp for 1 hour. Next run (IF) is 170hp for 1 hour.
First engine to blow loses, based on time under load with NO cool down time during run.
simple nuff', right?
Power is the easy part, keeping that puppy cool is another story.

DAN,
hey buddy, why not put your $$$$ where your mouth is and take Jakes challenge - you keep talking about crappy type 4's are.
Step up to the plate and take the challenge.
You build a fresh 2017 or 2110 type 1.
Jake will take the USED motor out of his blue car (type 4 2056).
You prove to me that your type 1 will outlast his type 4 on a stand running at 6 grand for and EXTENDED amount of time and I'll be the first to kiss your ass and pronounce you king.

SHOP? DYNO? I have a small one bay shithole of a garage. No shop! LOL
Hypothetically speaking, I could put the DLI and Holley 650dp on top to bring things up to speed. I am however concerned with the heat at that point, sitting on a stand. I run a cool can mounted in the car for warmer days, could prop it somehow.
A cool can (for those of you...) is simply an ice cooler device that the 3/8" fuel line passes through to drop the temp of the ingoing gas and create a colder charge. I call it poor mans Nitrous. Also used to stash Soda! and Juice!
Wish I had the time and $$>

Type 1 vs. Type 4
Guys, stop the discussion. I made the error and get for every reply a mail notification. My server is full of mails, damn
!
Do I get an award/price for receiving more than 100 replies (lol) ???
Btw, to get more interest in this dyno-testing, I would give a German cam & follower setup (Schleicher), either Type 1 or Type 4 (depending on who wins). Duration and lift like you want, worth around 280bucks, just to get also a special price into this dyno-testing.
John, couldn't we do that as an official dyno-test, maybe there are more sponsors around?
