Hook a test light between the connector at the pump and see if it has power and ground for the 3 second prime and while cranking.

The wires were on correctly, and the pump was installed in the right direction for flow. The pump is not functioning. When 12v are applied, the pump buzzes, but will not draw anything. It measured a draw of a bunch of amps, and pegs the scale... thus the heat. Something is shorted out in the pump, or it is siezed. I am going to have to get a new pump tomorrow.
I verified I am getting good spark already, if I forgot to mention that. Looks like I am headed to Outback after work...

Skid, probably not the problem but I will shoot it out there anyway. Similar issue happened to my buddy and it ended up being an accumulation of crud in the pre-filter from all of the fab and stuff.
Also, am unsure of your set-up but the 100micron is before the pump and the 10 or 30 micron is after the pump.
Like I said, maybe not your case, but worth tossing it out there. Just keep the faith.

I hooked it up with only the 30 micron between the pump and fuel rail. Just trying to get it to start, and haven't put the other filters in. I ave disconnected the pump and there is no foreign debris in the inlet side. The pump should not be drawing that many amps, or getting that hot. Something is clearly wrong in my mind. Or that it's just in my mind...

Hooking up the pump to a separate 12v source yielded the same result - it buzzes, but won't move any fluid, and gets hot.

Stick a fork in it, it's done. Are you out $$ or will they exchange it?

I won't know until I show up with it tomorrow. Being electrical, I am expecting to pay for it. It came with the turnkey motor, so I am not sure what they cost. But nothing on this car has been less than $100. No matter what you want - hunna dolla. You sure you want dat? Hunna dolla... But the pretty one, dats two hunna dolla...

Okay - here is the low down. Being that this is my first fuel injected motor, I am disappointed that this information had to be discovered through error, and not communicated up front when I purchased the motor (which the fuel pump came with). I feel that the information should have been included with the engine purchase...
The high pressure fuel pump for injection systems is not designed to suck. It is designed to push. Therefore, you need to have at the minimum, gravity fed fuel pressure at the inlet side of the high pressure pump. In my situation, having a fuel cell that the fuel outlet comes out of the top of the tank (pick up is at the bottom of the tank), the high pressure pump is not strong enough to draw the fuel from the bottom of the tank up and over the top and back down to the pump (which is mounted lower than the tank). This will require a sump tank, or accumulator, to be installed in the system with another auxillary pump strong enough to suck the fuel up and out of the tank into the accumulator. The accuymulator will need to bottom feed the high pressure pump to keep it happy. This will require redoing all of my fuel lines, fabbing a sump or accululator tank, and all the extra fittings and mount tabs to go with it.
I sure wish I had known all this before I selected my fuel cell. A cell with the outlet at the bottom of the tank would have worked fine. But, I was still in the air cooled mode when I bought the cell, so it was right at the time. Chalk up another part of the H2O conversion stuff that you don't expect. Starting of the motor is going to be delayed a while until I get all this other poop straightened out and installed... don't hold your breath.
All of this choice info was given to me after watching the pump work flawlessly during testing in Outback's shop... the pump works fine, when fed properly.

sucks to hear skid, but i don't necessarily buy it.
here is my setup, a FI holley pump, with a filter before, pulling fuel from a top mounted outlet, as you can see, the pump is not lower than the tank, but should be, however, i have no problems with it, even when run low on fuel.

Skid it may be cheaper, easier, and quicker to install a feeder pump in the fuel cell. Ford used them they had a pump in the tank that fed a pump on the frame rail. Mid 80 pick ups had them maybe into the 90's as well.

It might need priming, not sure. Can you add any pressure to the tank?May be some nitrogen through the breather line. my fuel pick up is at the top of my tank also and my fi set up works fine. The pump is a CB unit and i have the PSI set at 50.I'm sure this pump would give you the volume and pressure you need. But,i'd try the one you have first.Just because it is a pusher and not a puller doesn't mean it won't work.

Gotta hand it to you, Baja5... we did just that earlier tonight. She had no trouble firing right up. If I ever run the tank and pump dry, it will need to be primed again.

Congrats Skid! I bet you are way psyched right now.
One question, When do I get a ride??

Sounds great Skid... even looks like you have all the wiring dialed out on the dash also. Since you are a seasoned pro now, can you come out and finish mine?

Yeah, I started the motor... but the fuel system has to come back apart. And there is a bunch of work needed to become drivable. But once it is, a nice freeway test would be putting out to Palm Springs for a cool one...
Hey, Leather... I think you may still owe me a t-shirt after all...

Here is another video of the motor, revving up this time. I am still pretty new to this digital video thing, so excuse the last part - I guess I didn't get the camera turned off...
