CopperBaja's Baja

Offroad VW based vehicles have problems/insights all their own. Not to mention the knowledge gained in VW durability.

Pretty sure thats just insulation. I would take it off. It is VERY flammable. Caught mine on fire a couple times with the welder before ripping it out...

I say take it off, add some deadner and carpet over.

Maybe someone else will chime in, but I don't think it's the stock insulation.

It's really hard, like fiberglass. It won't cut easily.

I know the type of insulation you are talking about, though...it was under that square tubing that's being used as a cross-brace in the rear.
When I was welding the holes in the shelf area, it would catch fire from the spatter.

i had the same stuff in mine when i cleaned out the back. i had to use a wire wheel on a super duty drill to get it all off. Took me hours to get it all out of there. I think that its part of the original firewall.

Oh yeah.... Seems like yesterday I could hold him in one hand.....now my wife holds him to 2 minutes and is like "Here, take him, he's heavy!"

On the upside, he already likes being thrown onto the bed! :)

PROGRESS!

Post by CopperBaja »

Made some progress today! :)

Started the carpeting....custom carpet takes forever. We did good on the passenger seam above the cage, but the driver's side needs a small patch....

And we put in the back window!

Not a whole lot, but a few steps forward! 8)

I agree! ;)

I haven't even taken a pic of my Cherokee with the sticker yet....maybe I'll get a pic of both of them. :)

Sorry...I'm slacking on pics....slipped 1/2 way down page 2....

I installed new bolts in the rear bumper where it attaches to the cage. I also had some help and got the hood installed and adjusted after getting the seal on.

And I mounted the CB antenna and have my flag on. I'll get pics as soon as I get home from work before it gets dark... :(
