I've thought about posting pictures of my 4 legged family members ever since the thread started. I suppose it's way overdue now. The tough part is picking out the pics I want to post.
This is on an offroad excursion back in the 70s. Me with Duke on the summit of Mt. Pinos, CA.
I have no digital pics of my mutt Chip, who would always fetch the dishes for all of the dogs for me to fix their dinner. Or of lovable Ol' Teddy, the golden retriever. He loved it when it snowed.
This one is Goof. When a healthy adult, he weighed 135 lbs. Unknown breed of massive mutt. He liked to rest his chin on the edge of the dinner table, even though he KNEW he was going to get n trouble for it. I tell my son that Goof was his twin brother. They were born the same week. This photo was taken after Goof had developed Diabetes, lost weight to 70lbs and gone blind. He survived for 4 years receiving insulin shots 2x a day.
This one is Ginger. Unknown mutt...maybe part golden retriever. Real sweetheart of a dog.
Clyde is part Border Collie, part Cattle Dog, and mostly Australian Kelpie. Complete with my old race buggy in the background.
Clyde and Ginger's pups:
Chica, Morena and Maria. (3 of the litter of 10).
All of these have moved on to other homes. Chica stayed with us for several years, but Animal Control said we had too many dogs, and when Chica got out and caught, they wouldn't let us have her back. She was the runt and the house Princess. Clyde and Ginger would send her to the corner of the patio to protect her while all the others went to bark at passersby. Never saw that sort of behavior with any other animals. Morena was a good lovable dog, who wound up staying while the woman who had asked for her had her pool rebuilt. She then had puppies with the neighbor's dog being the dad. Maria had a huge amount of personality. She didn't bark much, but she "talked" a lot. All sorts of noises came out of her mouth which she strung into series of sounds like sentences. She ALWAYS had to have the last word whether she was conversing with us or another dog or a raven.
Morena's pups were taken care of by Aunt Chica. She played with them, herded them around the yard, broke up fights, made sure they were all accounted for when it was time to bring them in, and cuddled with them
She was heartbroken each time one went to a new home.
This is the newest member of the family. Minnie...A Long-Haired Chihuahua. Seen here with Clyde on a desert outing at Cal City.
She showed up in our back yard on the 4th of July in 07 and nobody claimed her, although we posted signs all over town and notified Animal Control. I generally dislike small dogs, especially pure-bred ones. But this one is very different. The other dogs welcomed her into the yard, never barking at her. She fit in as if she lived with us her whole life.
