I think we have came to the decision of not getting rid of it, I would like to see how it does on the dyno!

I believe I will keep it..

I like the idea of it being used to further someone elses mechanical comprehension at a later date, hopefully that will be my future son.....

I think that leaving it together until that time would be a great idea, untouched and still driven.. My dad has a '73 Bug that needs an engine and it would be perfect for him to use.

I really don't believe in showcasing things- its an engine and should be driven. IF IT BLOWS UP- SO BE IT, IT WON'T BE THE FIRST TIME AND DAMN SURE WOULD NOT BE THE LAST!

The 15 window needs to go, I have plenty of room but a Bus takes up too much of it, plus I have never been big into buses.

I thought type 1 motors were "disposable"

This post made me realise it has been 40 years ago this month I bought my first vw... a 59 bug, 75$ cash from a used car dealer who took it in as a trade in..but,as a WW2 POW survivior, would not even allow it on his lot. I still have the dealer option radio from this car in my shop. . I had it in my 66 ghia till 1998 when I switched to 12 volt and upgraded the sound system to a Craig 8 track "super tuner" player (now modified to accept input from my mp3 player).

I think there is something to be said about keeping these "touchstones" of our own personal history. Of course wives and zoning enforcement may feel different.....

Besides you can always let Jake Jr play with the motor in a few years..

One of my friends, he loves driving, all out car guy, got BMWs, he just got some Morgan car about a month ago, but his son has absulely no interest in cars at all. It sorta ashame, hope it won't happen to you.....

Glad to hear you are keeping the engine, as that is my vote too. Working on my Bradley has brought back many memories. It was my first car, not counting the '66 Mustang Conv. bought and sold before I had my license. My dad got the car so we could be distributors, but the company went under months after we got the car.

Lots of memories of working on it, his support, and of course, the fun of driving it as a 16 yr old! Driving it in the winter that first year was something else!!!!

Learned a lot from the car, including making a rear disc kit, installing a porsche 5-speed, rebuilding my first motor (1911), suspension mods, etc.

I say keep it for sentimental value. Sure you probably have a ton of other stuff with meaning, but is that other stuff the first successful engine build you ever had?
