Wake Up Call

VW's aircooled mini SUV. Great for riding in the country, or cruising the beach.

I agree. The more folks who work on it the better the sticker will turn out.

I got my 74 thing in a trade for my old honda accord. It was pretty stripped and modified for strictly off-road use when I got it. I've fixed all the electrical, new carb, full tune up, ($50) paint job, new exhaust, battery, distributor, tires/rims, and I'm working on cleaning the original fuel tank. I plan on getting it street legal by the summer by adding some fenders/ headlights and maybe getting a bikini top.
It won't be a strictly stock restoration however, I want to use it most of the time to cruise town and the local area, but I also want to drive it up at the dunes (North Sand Hills) here in northern colorado. I've driven old bugs up there and would like to see how the Thing will do with a few mods. Nothing serious, just a sand pulley, off road tires, maybe a small lift. With all the attention that a baja bug got up there, I'm sure the Thing will turn some heads too.
As far as the STF sticker is concerned, I could offer some help as well. (I did the graphic design for Kubelmanns romtoc site).

Let's get the ball rolling guys lets see what you want on these stickers.
Hot, humid air is less dense than cooler, drier air. This can allow a golf ball to fly through the air with greater ease, as there won't be as much resistance on the ball.

Well we gotta run it by Doc before we can really get this going. And since you are the Thing Mod I will be glad to let you handle it.

I'm all for an STF Thing sticker. No self respecting 181 owner would be caught without one. It might be 2008's de rigeur accessory!!

I would like the sticker to say "www.shoptalkforums.com" exactly on the sticker somewhere and I would like to have a final sign off on any art work. I would also like to see a plan whereby one guy doesn't take a bath financially.

Let me know how I can assist. Artists BEGIN!! 8)

Now that we have that said and done...

I vote for Colorider181 to take the three Things graphic as seen on

www.romtoc.com and put in with the "other" STF sticker and of course remove the dune buggy and other VW graphic and along the bottom edge we "keep the doctor happy" and include www.shoptalkforums.com

But that is me and this is a group project;. Let the VW design party begin... or continue or whatever...

Made this VERY quickly, if it were possible to get a sticker cut in the thing shape I think that would be cool. The font/color/design was just picked at random - like I said, made it very quickly, just wanted to get some design started. I could make it with a faint background of the doors and body textures too.

I'm in for the Thing stickers...great idea! As for adventures in the Thing...everyday is an adventure! It's been my daily driver since early August. Cold and rainy here lately...but it's all good.

I don't have the artistic ability, but what about a Thing made up like the graphic at the top of the page?

Use of this I assume would come with the previous artists permission- (rough draft taken directly from logo image)

Needs to be cleaned up- but pretty cool I think.
