FAT Type-4

We manufacture a Type-4 target wheel for FAT.

This is used by Wide Open Baja for their tour cars.
As you know they use a Porsche fan housing.

I have the "hub" specification, what diameter ?
What index do you require ?

In my case, I don't need it anymore because I made it myself. However, I think it would be a handy setup for other people wanting to do the same. It seems as though the diameter and tooth count of the stock ford EDIS wheel works well.

I have worked with the manufacturer of the "stock" Ford target wheels.

There are a great many versions and there are particular needs of those here who have concerns.

My method would be to have a group of intended users specify their needs by dimension requirements.

I do appreciate your help to date.

You might want to post your services on the msefi/msextra forums as it may gain you some business. Like I mentioned before, had I known you could make wheels, I would have ordered one instead.

i have now started the engine and it runs :)
the only issue is that the missing tooth was machined 6 degrees offset from the original sensor position, which adds 6 degres to the timing
(10 degrees in megasquirt , gives 16 degrees timing)

i tried to correct it by subtracting 6 degrees in the "trigger angle/offset degree" settings in MS
by punching in "-6" in the box.
but did not seem to change anything.

hmm

I'm in the process of doing a similar setup for a 2.5L type 4 engine but I'm having some doubts about the strength of the flywheel as the area where the flywheel engages with the clutch disc is getting pretty thin.
How deep did you machine into the backside surface of the flywheel to make this set-up work?

Nice to hear you got the engine running. :-)
Regarding the 6 degrees offset, have you tried to run the engine without the pip/saw signals connected to MS? That should result in EDIS firing at 10 degrees +/- whatever offset you have on your sensor position. This way you can see the exact offset using a timing gun ...just to make sure it's not MS playing with you. (maybe you have already tried this ...just a thought)
Will you be racing at SCC this weekend? (I can't wait to get there, I just hope the weather will be somewhat good)

hi
yes i'm assembling my racebus these hours to make it!!!
it's the engine in the bus that i have this setup.
first i did as u says , to make the edis go in "Limp" mode 10degrees.
the lamp gives actual 16 degrees.
i want to retard the whole ingnition map 6 degrees to compensate.

Then it must be some kind of SW issue.

How deep are the gaps you machined into the flywheel? ...1, 2, 3 mm?

5mm down
then there should be around 4.15mm left of material where the "grooves" are.

I will be machining a "bolt-up" edis style trigger wheel and vr bracket for the stock type 4 motor (not the upright FAT/Raby conversions). This replaces your alternator pulley with an aluminum pulley (standard three holes through fan) that provides mounting points of a trigger wheel. VR is attached to a bracket that bolts to the two mounts where your timing degree indicator normally bolts. So no machining of flywheel or drilling of fan or fan housing. But, for late bus and 914 you may still need to pull the engine to get the fan off. PM if interested.

Mario makes 36-1 wheels/trigger mounts that will work with stock T4 cooling, could easily be setup on a T4 conversion as well.

I thought the EDIS required a 90º angle for TDC? Can you skew that with MS set up for EDIS? This is what I went direct fire on my setup ... I also needed the 60º offset.

http://msextra.com/doc/ms2extra/MS2-Ext ... #ediswheel

There is no mention of modifying the offset when using EDIS.
