Results expected from a Planishing Hammer

I suspect that like the saved for 20 years piece of steel, each little skill or trick a guy can acquire will find a use at some point. I also really appreciate threads like this.

Agreed, doc. I learn stuff every day still. And learn it from young guys as well. I'm the oldest geezer at my shop doing the job I do.

The things I impart on them I try to make permanent, as I know from my life of experience, some of it applies so many ways and in so many places. Best example I can give is the use of leverage. I was a little bitty guy all the way up into my late 20's never weighed over 128 lbs. But I could do almost anything a guy that had the weight in his favor, using leverage. I could pick up a fridge same as the next guy, and weighed 128 lbs or less. All About how you go about lifting it or moving it. I did have some pretty strong legs, and could press more than a lot of the Football players in my high school. My legs weren't big, just developed for the task. I played soccer, not football. I still win with leverage but now weigh about 225 instead. So with leverage it looks super easy nowadays. But since I learned with leverage, I can now do WAY more than I could with no weight to back my skills. and I'm also old, so I don't dig working crazy for something I can simplify.

Metal shaping is something that's been nagging at me for years and I started collecting tools that would help me learn, just about the time I had a stroke, and once that happened the meds took away all of my extra energy, and I am now finding it necessary to clear out some of the tools I acquired years ago. I just sold (well, transaction pending) my monster Louver press. I cut some stuff with it, but never developed my world into the kind of shop that could actually use it enough to make it a good fit for me. It's awesome, I got a good deal on it. Passing the good onto someone who has the shop and energy to use it, as well as the clientele. I'm hating it going, but glad to see it go to someone I think will use it.
