Well I've built a Ghia roadster, and I've converted a coupe to a cabriolet, Both projects were huge. If you want something nice, be prepared to spend at least $20,000 or perhaps 1,000-1,500 hours if you know what you are doing. On the other hand there is nothing wrong with taking a unrestorable beater and making a fun summer car. That's what I had planned with the roadster I used to own. Fair warning: It got out of hand fast.
