Type 1/2 IRS Kits/ Brakes
I sent copies of the templates for the cutting of the spring plates to a fellow STF member that was going to try to post them some how. They can be cut. I've done it witha torch and a plasma cutter both have run just fine. In fact the torch cut ones just got pulled after about ten years of wear and tear. Torch cutting just requires alot more grinding to finish. Check the post about straight axle kit on a bus. The axles tubes are squareback legnth with small end castings we welded in a section inside the area the splitboots covered so finish grinding was not nessesary. The e brake cables need a little tube about 2" long to make them work. I was getting the exact measurement this weekend.

Yeah, I honestly have no idea. I'm having flashbacks to chopping aluminum tubing a few years ago while building a raft and blistering through my gloves when I grabbed the first piece. Completely different than the mild steel I'm used to. I didn't mean to say however that it would change things, just that it might and I didn't know and that I was hesitant. But the more I think about it and weigh all the options the more I think I'm gonna do it.
As far as the springplates go I have no problem bringing a torch to them. At the risk of sounding humble I would have to say that when I'm done there won't be much work for the grinder. Heh heh.
So thanks to everyone for responding. It feels good to have a plan of action. STF rocks, and I'll update this in a few weeks/months when I get all this done.

OK between skiing, beer, and my mothers bathroom I haven't done much to speak of on the bus. But I figured posting an update would get the ball rolling.
Jeff (Rizzag11) has converted my spindles. The word on the man is not hype. Consider me another happy camper.
I am back to an IRS rear end. Will chop the torsions, and Fat Performance will hook me up with a custom set of Sway-A-Way axles. A local guy (Frozen in AK) is hooking me up with some aluminum 944 arms. If I have to narrow them too then I will need to find someone willing to weld aluminum for beer, hopefully in that order.
I am going to try to borrow a digital camera and photographically document all the sucking in going on here. Then all I need to do is befriend someone who understands these acursed computers and everyone will be able to follow along and think, WTF was he thinking, and decide if its something they wish to do themselves.
As far as tires go I don't have any. However I have pretty much decided to go with a set of Yokohama Avid S/T, in 215/65TR15 and 235/60TR15. Has anyone used these? Also they are 26" tall, and I hope that's an OK height.
OK gotta go fix some tiling in the shower and daydream a bit.
Have a good day!
