Try the head-porting info at the Cal-Look Forum Tech Section- http://www.cal-look.com/clf.html. Also, if you can find the book "How to Hotrod Vw engines" from Bill Fischer (from early '70's) he has a detailed head porting section. Don't make the opening in the head (at intake manifold)too big without also working around the base of the valve guides inside the tract. I use a 3/8" drill with a short and long "olive" bit, bought from McMaster-Carr supply company. Then use a flapper wheel in the drill to finish off the runners. Takes lots of time (can also overdo it!) but it can make positive gain on performance.

I plan on picking up that book soon, I just need to match up the intakes. Thanks for all your responses. I'd be driving a GTX or somthing if it not for you folks.

The ceramic pan to cast iron soil pipe join in my house is a male / female socket packed with hemp rope and then the gap is filled / sealed with lead ?
Modern houses have plastic and rubber "Multi-quick" joins now.

In the UK , a waxy ring is usually what sits ON the toilet after a long days driving ha ha ha )))))))

lame generic porting tips:

1. when using a gasket as a pattern to scribe the new port outline, TAPE IT DOWN so it doesn't shift on you while y'r scribing and create a too-big outline of the actual size of the port.

2. spray yr cutting bit with pam to keep it from loading up.

3. bits i use on aluminum: rounded-nose cone shape fluted cutter; cylindrical fluted cutter; ball shaped cutter; very small cone-shape cutter for cleanup, detail work; sandpaper flapwheel.

Must be - the methods you ddescribe are used to couple sections of the soil pipe together over here, but the commode either bolts to the floor or to the flange at the end of the pipe and the wax ring does the sealing. The deluxe rings have a rubber inner liner.

So-o-o-o, I guess you'd have to get beeswax or paraffin at a canning supply store which'd probably cost more since it's food-grade. Maybe a candlemaker's shop?

Whats a commode ?

I thought that was a kind of dragon/ lizard.
