John is right, all we do are turnkey engines, no longblocks. He has the best longblocks on the market...

too bad most people can't afford a jake raby, john connely, or berg motor. evn though it is my dream to own a jake raby type IV ive had to go with gex. i just try to take precautions like getting new case and heads. it is true you never know what kind of guts you have in a gex motor. sometimes there is no other choice.

We are not that much more than the other guys, and neither is John. If you add it up mile for mile, I will bet you an engine from John or I would be cheaper in the long run.

The big guys make money from buying huge lots of mismatched bearings, and watching the special sheets from the parts wholesalers. They could care less if the part is a cuple of thou shy from being right or if the engine is balanced. They make $ from MASS PRODUCTION, we don't and never will.

The reasonI quit doing longblocks was because of liabilities associated with a novice installer with lack of experience....Almost anyone can install a VW engine, but not everyone can button it up correctly and dial it in. Now that we have the DYNO I can send engines to customers dialed in and ready to go even better than before...

it would be nice if we could all make plans for our money in the long run, but most of us live from week to week. even though you will save money in the end by spending more money now. my big money purchases come in my tax refund. im all for building the motor yourself. even though i have wasted some tousands myself when i first started. my advice is do your research and take every prcaution. such as, cleaning parts, line boreing if needed, make sure all cooling tin is in place, make sure the oil galleries are clean, balancing, and above all raed whatever you can get your hands on. also let me recommend you get a new case with your motor. it will give you all the oil pressure and horse power you should have. my first mistake came with a 1200 i had line bored to many times. i could find no way to keep the thing from over heating and it finally had a melt down after spending 900 - 1000.

jake, let me apologize. i just looked on line at your type 1 motors. it says base price is 850 for a turn key. that is very reasonibly priced for all that you do. i wander if you could tell me why you use a 30 pict 3 on your dual ports though. im just curious, as i have problems with a bocar 34 pict 3 i use.

I have a 64 bug. I saved it from Junkyard and I want to bring it back to life.
I def want to get rid of 1300cc engine and convert entirely to 12V. I was thiking of dropping in 1904-2275CC Type I into bug but seeing that you can convert type IV to Type I, what Type IV do you recommend? It will be a baja and I'll be driving nice sized tires on rear. I plan on driving bug almost daily and taking it out for a romp in the dunes oncein a while.

If you're going stock displacement - why not a new engine? Aircooled.net has them (as well as others). For stock displacement for a reliable engine at a decient price, what could be better than all new parts, assembled with all the manufactures quality control systems in place?

Personal opinion here, but if I was replacing stock long block, I wouldn't consider rebuilt, just new. If I was going to build a bigger motor, with higher HP, I would reconize this demands more attention to detail than "mass rebuilders" can take. If my decission was baised on the fact that I had $1300 to spend, I'd rather spend it on a brand new "stock" engine, than a rebuilt by Johny No Name (do you know who they have working at GEX or ?) 1776cc engine.

SPENT $2,050 on a trash GEX long block and it's cost me way over that in more parts and lots of heart ache!!!! Don't have time to rebuild so I'm looking a zero miles long block from Rocky Mt. Motors but am a little hesitant after getting screwed from GEX. ANY opinions on RM long blocks? Have bought parts from them and had no trouble. THANKS

Pretty sure it's the same Mexican made long block everyone else is selling.

My mom told me if I couldn't say anything good, not to say anything at all.
