To answer your question- Yes, I plan on selling them to John to keep on his shelf.....If he can keep them there or not we'll see about. I'm not seklling them outside the states, so that will increase the demand for international customers to purchase from him.

In the world of custom parts it is common to pay for items totally up front.. Heck sometimes customersI have never heard of send me an engine with a 5,000.00 check inside, and never even call me till I'm finished- They trust me.

Small businesses like mine must do things in batches to make a decent profit off of anything, so sometimes that requires waiting around.
I hope one day to have shrouds on the shelf, all boxed up and ready to go. Will it happen?Probably not, since the demand is so high already and the site is not even up, and the Type 1 DTM isn't even in production yet! PLUS I STILL BUILD ENGINES!

I hope to just receive a small deposit to initiate the orders and then be paid in full when the kit is shipped, thats how I work most of my engines, we'll see how it works but right now I'm trying to recoup some of my thousands of bucks invested to get the production high enough to keep the kits on the shelf.

As for being sick or whatever and not being able to get one finished......well I have to be sick as a dog not to be at work(hell I have passed out in the floor for a 35 minute period before waking up and going back to work)......

as far as running away with your money, well that won't happen either, lived on the same property (off of Raby Drive) all my life. If I say I'll do something,I do it. If I sell you something you'll receive it, and I don't care what I have to do to make that happen.

If you buy it from me, or from John its the same shroud. If you want one from him I HIGHLY recommend talking to him now before he receives his first batch from me.

Wouldn't matter to me if you drop shipped it for him. It never herts to have a third party like a retailer looking out for your best interest, however I realize that you have to wholesale to him and why would you if you can sell them all yourself.

If all you wanted was a reasonable downnpayment, (say a third), that would also be OK with me but I would like to get some sort of worst case dilivery date.

Regardless, I would much rather have a carbon fiber one if the cost dose not shoot up too much so keep us posted.

I hope to be able to keep basic through stage III kits on the shelf after the first batch is all gone.....I'm making 25 of everything as we speak.

The test work has slowed me down a tremendous amount, more than I ever anticipated, but it had to be done.

Are there any pics of Joe's Hybrid fan? I'd like to see what it looks like even if it's not the best option.

Jake, have you thought about using some sort of turbo wastegate to regulate the pressure inside the shroud? Seems like you might be able to keep the air from backing up this way. It could probably be something as simple as a trap door with a spring on it.

Just a thought.

Jake,
The hybrid fan you described looks a lot like a type 3 stock fan set-up. Those also have an alu fan drawing the air to the radial fan, which then throws it around onto the cylinders (so to speak). That way the second fan already has a bit of air pressure which makes the intake of fresh air a lot easier I suppose.

Did Joe got his hybrid fan idea maybe from the original VW type 3 set-up?

Thanks,
Walter

Plain Black Carbon DTM would REALLY interest me :D (If you can/will ship to the uk in the next 12 months or so). The silver one also sounds good, but would need to see pictures first.

**edit - just reread and if John @ aircooled.net is gonna be able to ship them then all the better :D

As the owner of one of the "hybrid" fans.....

It's a regular type4 (914) fan with part of it milled off - then pop riveted to a type1 fan back plate (type1 fan with all the fins removed - leaving only the back plate that bolts to the alt/gen).

The type4 fan and shroud is basically an "overgrown" version of the type3 system.....similar yet different...

I think Joe was looking to increase CFM and find a fan that would "easily" retrofit to the DTM.

It's been proven that the hybrid does move some air - but the late type1 fan (wider) does as well a job yet loses less HP than the hybrid.

Im in the market for a new shroud for my type 1...
i have the chrome empi Crap at the moment..and hate it..
also im a carbon fiber junkie..so if you can let me know what the cost on a type 1 kit will be...in just plain old carbon fiber..and let me know when i can get one...Ohh and if it will work with the CSP bell crank linkage..and possibly if you can fit a single carb with the shroud..that would help out large.

thanx

Still working on the issue steve...

I'll let you know. Atleast we may be able to get the work I need verified done, and I can do the rest later.. its not so confrontational...if I find something wild that I don't anticipate I could grab a neighbor to watch...
