It does not seem to difficult. I will start painting after new years. I just like seeing a finished product that you did yourself. I will have to do some more research on guns. I went to a couple of painters today and they use the gravity type guns

another tip for your make-shift booth,at the same place you buy your paint, buy a couple of logs of 36" WHITE masking paper and tape that to your plastic on the walls.will help ALOT as far as lighting and dust are concerned.

I use a Devilbiss GT2000 spray gun, with a 1.4 tip. For metalic paint its adjusted to 30 psi, and for clear its set at 25 psi. I have a nice little 7hp V4 compressor with an 80 gal tank, that cycles twice (sometimes only once) while painting a car (about the size of a Squareback). This set up works well for me. I normally dampen the floor, creating small puddles away from the car for any loose dust to land into. My walls are painted white, and I have 17 shop lights in place to help light up the room (24' X 24' X 8' ceiling). I don't shoot enamel in there very often, and when I do, I put plastic up, to keep the overspray from sticking to everything. If using a base coat-clear coat system, them you really don't have to do that. I normally do most of my painting in a bc-cc system, as it dries quickly enough that most dust doesn't get a chance to stick to the top coat (dries too quick), and if you're painting in a garage, I highly recommend going that route. You can do multiple coats of clear in one shot, or you can sand between the coats of clear for the mile deep look everyone's after, but you would need to wait a day before sanding. I hope this helps, and these are just a couple of my thoughts from doing cars for the last 8 to 10 years.

It helps out a lot. I am shooting for a one color car. I was looking at the single stage paint where you just shoot it and it is done. I still have a lot of reading to do. I am not trying to win anything in car shows. I just want my car to look good and be all one color instead of blue here, primer their and all that horrible stuff. I just got a digital camera so I will take some pictures for everybody.

I use PPG Deltron single stage catalized enamel ,or house of colors depending on the situation.Tack time on both is pretty fast so not much of a dust problem. When it come to paint, you get what you pay for as fare as not fading out in a couple of months...Donald

I am going to head to the paint shop this afternoon to get some paint. I received some info on step by step and now I think I have a better idea about the whole thing. I will probably go with a single stage enamel. How long should you wait before you wash and wax it? The car is always in the garage protected from the elements.

You can wash your car after 30 days but can't wax it until 6 months.
