If ONE piece of that gets in the oil and finds its way to the right place- Kiss it goodbye..

I'd tear it down.

Nope, the oil pump... Where it gets chewed up and part of it gets filtered..

Work around Turbine engines and you'll learn to hate debris.. Those traits still follow me.

Yep, can't preach it enough till you see a compressor rotor fly through the side of an aircraft right after it went through your buddys torso- all because of one piece of safetywire.

That one cost 4 lives and happened 50 yards in front of me.. Thank god my pilots had quick reflexes, because I saw our rotor blades come within 5 dfeet of theirs- right before the entire thing consumed its self at 2,000 feet.

My favorite was the 1" Snap on wrench left on top of a rotor head... When the rotors engaged it stayed in place till the max Nr... Then it came off at 264 RPM and went through the hangar bay doors.. That crewchief lost his wings, and I got his aircraft!

In a vw engine all it takes is a manifold washer in an intake port, or a sheetmetal screw..... or some crap in the oil.

After cam break in on my engine I was surprised to see how much material the oil filter caught. I was really impressed when I tore down my engine to find no shavings at all inside the case. Thanks to Gene Berg and Fram HP1.

Well I have started to tear it down. I have the time to do it but do not have the desire to risk anything

Maybe its time for an upgrade? Anyone have a cheap set of 94MM pistons a larger crank or some webbers lying around?

Well I pulled the engine and tore it down tonight after school and it looks like the oil pickup tube is very loose where it goes into the case. What can I use to seal this up?

On another note I gues it is good I started to tear it down. I noticed some pitting on a few of the lifters. I guess its time for a new cam and lifters.

I hear you're supposed to use locktight 518 for the pickup tube.

well as some of you may know I had some other problems with the engine so I took it all apart and had the case hot tanked and am looking to build something a little bigger.

so anyway.... tonight I pounded the oil pickup tube out a little bit (i wanted to take it out then put some sealent on it then put it back in) and after moving back maybe an 1/8 inch it really firmed up in the case. There is no longer any side to side movement at all and is stiff in and out too. Seeing as it seems to have sealed itself up I am hesitant to keep pulling it out.

I looked at that locktight 518 stuff and it looks good. I was wondering if there was anything I could use though that would seep into the cracks between the case and pickup tube. The guys at our bug shop said locktight (the kind you use on bolts) but I was a little skeptical. Will 518 seep into the crack at all? Am I looking for a miracle sealent?

Thanks again for all the help I have recieved on the boards not haveing to learn the hard way EVERY time keeps it fun.

the only thing i can see is can you guarentee a clean surface with not pulling it aprt?

id just pull it, inspect it, make sure its clean and then apply sealant.
your there, might as well do it right.
