That engine had a cheapo linkage on it not a CB one..

So I need to order something so I can fix this problem, we have a CB agent in this country who has a few bits and pieces.

What do I need to ask him for:

baseplates - from which linkage kit?
extension piece?

The rest of the kit will be fine

Thanks
Paul

CB is the ONLY way to go.

Maybe he has the older style TIV CB kit that has the 2 bolt base plates instead of 3 bolt.

If he hasn't got one of those is there anything else I can get instead?

Wish I had just ordered the new linkage kit and sold this lot with the 1600 carbs and manifolds!

I thought some of the type 1 linkages fitted if you shortened the cross bar them - I have 2 bolt type plates

Jake,
How close are you to finishing & perfecting your design of the "BELLCRANK SYSTEM" ? I like the idea of eliminating the hex bar and incorperating the bellcrank instead on your turn key motors. It not only sounds like it would work more proficiently but would also make the massIVe set up more streamlined & less cluttered.

Not close at all..... But that don't mean much!

Jake - I just spoke to a guy at CB and he said he was going to email you to check which baseplates and parts I will need.

Hope thats okay

Cheers

Exactly! I agree. I made some new adapter plates today. I just have to decide where to drill the holes for the pivots.

drill the holes for the pivots the same in each adaptor but don't drill the holes that mount them to the air filter base yet on one side!

Use vice grips to clamp one side on after the other side is drilled and bolted. Then when you find the sweet spot on the side that was clamped drill a pilot hole through the air filter base and into the adaptor!

This will get it perfect.

I am running AJ Sims linkage which is based on the scat bellcrank style. It took a little modification to really get it dialed in, but It works nicely with the Dells. There is a set up process to get it to open up the whole way, and the linckage arms moving at the same rate etc. I had to drill a little slop in the connection to the throttle to allow for engine expansion. When the engine warms up the carbs move further apart. The linkage arms stay the same length resulting in the idle speed increasing. It is a touchy adjustment because too much slop causes 1 carb to open just a tad before the other one. Once it is dialed in it works great. I would prefer a linkage that pulls from one end and 1 solid arm or cable between the 2 carbs like when they are used on the V8s. It could probably be done but the throttle cable would need to enter the engine bay at a different location.

Darn, I drilled the holes for the base first. I like your method better. I'll try again monday with a fresh pair. Thanks.

Well I have just got my pair of baseplates and they are exact mirror images of each other?

I was under the impression that they were supposed to be different?

To be honest I am pretty sure they are exactly the same as my old ones?

Ok just checked and they are exactly the same as the ones I already have....

Have I got the wrong ones from CB,

or have I made a boo boo by not checking properly what I had before and now got 2 sets of the same??

Thanks
Paul
