Like most all here, I too want to thank you for your support and information. I feel lucky to have talked to you last year about an engine for my ghia. After loosing my job receintly, I am going to go back to school for a degree I want to get and do something I really want to. You have given me the courage and support indirectly to pursue this, and thank you again.

I am still on for trying a TIV (probably a kit from you) for my car. We will have to talk sometime in the future as I will be spending a lot of money at your store : engine kit, transaxel, DTM, exhaust, plus the extras.

Just kidding , Jake has personally helped me and I had the good fortune of talking with him over the phone regarding some engineering issues. The man is dedicated and he should be commended and not stalked by individuals who are just, to simply state it, "jealous of his dedication, perseverance, success, and wits".

I've stated in this forum in the past and I'll say it again that I would of have loved to have had Jake in one of my teams when I was doing some of those heavy technically challenging engineering feats during my aerospace years.

Jake, thanks to your cam suggestions and help, I finally got my 2110-cc running super great, my oil temperatures stay below 190 degrees, and my head temps dwell around 275 degrees (all within 15 degrees!)!

I have recently played around with a few stocker Type 4 engines (put one into my nephew's college bus and one into my friend's baja) and I will eventually put one into my 912 and Speedster.

Jake, thank you and keep doing what I only wish I could also be doing full time. I am not jealous myself but I do envy the man who can still play with the toys he loves at his age.

At this point I still don't know exactly how I will shift my attention. There are several possibilities but very first on the list is finishing all the descriptions on the store site and then finishing the engine site 100%.

I am leaning toward the Performance engine rebuild video as my next attempt of sharing. I have wanted to do it for a very long time and with Spring upon us and the 3 liter in the Bug and the Hybrid in the 914 we can get some very good in action shots of what MassIVe power can really do.

I have been getting some rest the past few days and getting alot done at the shop. Thats always like therapy when things get a tad rough.

I'll let you guys know what I will be doing for sure in a few days.

My T4 sat in the garage 10 years waiting for your initiative and effort. Now it, along with your DTM kit, roll my split screen on adventures around the West Coast from Vancouver BC to Mexico. The only way I know anyone is aware of it is people telling me their buddy told them about it but couldn?t catch or even keep up.

Day before yesterday somebody caught up when I parked, came running up, snotted up my drivers window and used his complete vocabulary to mumble ?you aren?t supposed to be driving this!? I guess my white hair and old guy clothes were too much for his cool guy IQ.

10 years after I read about Locicero?s system and bought Cali?s book, Tuna connected RAT where REAL applied to people and parts. A year later and with a lot of peoples help I can stop productivity at almost any shop or dealer with the only 2005 nuTransporter any of them are ever going to see.

US GP at Indy is as far east as I?ll get this year but next year I?ll be around your way for the Tour of Georgia and intend to see if I can dent productivity in Cleveland long enough to say thanks in person.

Not sure if you realize the value proposition in your business is Quality EDUCATION not Quality Parts. The business challnege with the VW Community (as a customer base) is that we're buyers/sellers/traders/helpers. It totally amazes me that newbies won't buy the entire BugMe video set from the Higgins...

Here lies the problem.. Education creates the value... customer group culture is too miserly to pay for education... when you loose the education, the customers don't perceive the value.

You're the moderator on the board... WHAT IF... we change the rules... They include "RAT--" in their subject title... this gives you the editorial right to torpedo any replies that drag down your potential. The challenge then is to only read the "RAT--" postings.

A few months back you split the forum so you'd have a format to discuss some plans and help us daydream with you. This in turn gave you the right to only preach to the invited choir.

I've done the Berg thing from 86 - 2000, Bob H. in the 90's (all the sermons and posts), John C. whenever I see a post. I don't own a type IV (yet) but this is the first place I go when I plunk my ass in front of the computer. You see, when it comes to all things aircooled, this is about as good as it gets.

It seems things came to a head when "Chuck" came out of nowhere as if it were 12/7/41 (7.12.1941). I hope I wasn't an unwitting contributor. My posts of selfish desires may have come off as unappreciative. That's too bad because I doubt anyone has learned more than me -- not because I know so much now, but because I started from "knowledge = 0."

Regardless of what is decided, I'm planning on getting a RAT engine some day. Which one, how configured, which exhaust, etc. -- I don't know yet; time will tell.

I've tried to contact Bob to buy a CD... promised to secrecy... he won't cough up a paper or CD copy of the sermons... won't even reply to Email about it.

Jake.. I know you're a fan of quotes and inventors... this may be a good time to put down the tools and pick up your Thomas Edison Biography. Reread the parts where he was fighting Westinghouse about how the world's electrical system should be developed. (I know this won't make sense to many people --- unless you've studied successful inventors and their adversity)

I know a lot about Mr. edison... He and I suffered from the same deficiency... Not to mention the fact that my Grandpa (that died in 1947) was a friend to Mr. Edison as he was the tax assessor in the town where Mr. Edison's winter home was (Fort Myers Fla.)

I have absolutely NO INTENTION of ever being someone like Berg and I damn sure ain't smart enough to be like Edison...

I just need to find a way to share the information that we have learned and put to use the internet as a tool- Not a detriment that causes more work for me and more hassles at the same time.

I honestly dont think any criticism of Jake and his efforts and the results of anything he does can be taken too seriously as long as he is the ONLY ONE DOING IT.
Where's "Chuck"s 3.0 Type4 engine? Where his shop and what does he do for all of us?
Jake is up day and night busting his ass on all kinds of weird and crazy things learning and sharing knowledge, hoping to make a buck or two and furthering the whole range of Air-Cooled engines.
You know..I first checked into the DTM and thought..wow, thats kinda pricey.
That was last spring- I now realize its a BARGAIN considering all the time Jake has put into it- he basically works for free so we can have a good product. He even answered the phone yesterday!!!
And people complain about deadlines!! Buy something from Cbperformance these days. They just straight out lie. At least RAT is honest about a month wait for a product.
And the complainers!! You ever spend 5 or 6 months, or maybe a year or two, and fix a car up and then have someone pick it apart?
Imagine POURING your life into something then have a guy off the street blow you off saying he "could" do better. Those people never take action.
Screw those guys. What'd they ever do for us?
And I've been thinking for a while now that Jake is kind of an equivilent of a Modern Day Gene Berg. But times have changed, so theres no comparison- if Jake wasn't around I'd be building a friggen 1776 for my 912 and it would still cost $6k!!
I say dont change a thing..especially not for some whiner who thinks he could do better. And the rod deal..forget it. It didn't work out- and keep in mind the ONLY person who lost anything on that deal was Jake. Hours and hours. Everyone else gets they're money back.
Jake! Keep it up. Noone wants you going anywhere, but take a break when you need to. Don't let yourself forget why you're doing it!

To everyone on this thread, I gotta feeling what ever Jake ends up doing, is going to be a plus for the T4 world. This is one venue, but there are other possiblities. Even if it doesn't involve sharing as much or as often, Jakes work will always benifit those interested in the T4. It's in him and its got to come out. LOL Just be there when it does! On the bright side, If Jake turns his attention to other things and doesn't post as much, we would all get more done. When things are slow on this forum, I spend alot less time on the computer!

Jake, my advice would be to start like this:
step away from the computer and "take a break".

Go fishing. For 2 weeks.
Take weekends OFF. Perhaps learn to sleep for 8 hours.

You are ALWAYS going to have to deal with asshats like that guy, it comes with the territory... Not just on the net either.

The schedule you have been keeping could kill a lot of guys---
I'd just as soon have you around in a few years to bug for info..
