Yes the nose cone vent is there raised to a breather box.

How many miles have you done on the 2270 and did your fuel consumtion come down once you ran it in?
Gear ratios
R&P 3.88
1st 3.78
2nd 2.06
3rd 1.48
4th 1.04
5th 0.82
Are these ratio's suitable to get the most from a type4?

On further investigation the gearbox oil from the sideplate to the drivecup seal leak appears to be migrating rearwards down to the bellhousing looking like a cranckshaft seal leak!

Need to sort things out! Good job really gives me time to sort out real finances for either a daily beetle with super 2litre or a super hero for the speedster!
Thanks for your help!

Those gears are a bit tight for a 5 speed coupled to a TIV, BUT tire size plays the biggest role in this! What size rear tire are you running? How tall are they?
Remember: You have flat torque and a lot of it, AND an engine that loves load because it cools so damn well!

185/55/15 which look to be 22.5-23 inch diameter! I always thought they looked small, didn't realise they were that small!
Once there worn out i will have to put larger on! Clearances were very tight when the car was built!but suspension adjustments mean i am shore that i can squeeze something taller in there, perhaps a little extra width too!
So a change of gearing will help when i switch to a type4!
Could i reuse the 5 speed kit and quaife lsd with a taller gearstack!
Thanks

Currently running Flat4 BRM's had one of the first sets in the UK which are only 5"wide might have to lookat a pair of 61/2" BRM's but they have a liitle more rim sticking out which might give clearnce issues!I will try to borrow a set with tires on to try!
