Although, it could also be the fuel pump rod, you can start the engine, let it idle for a minute to fill the carb, then pull the fuel pump off and the rod out. Then start the engine and see if the noise is gone. if not the it is deeper.
Thats exactly what i thought...

i have a electric fuel pump, but i just have a fuel pump sitting in place, so i took it off, and there wasnt a rod in there(?) so i fabbed up a block off plate and put that on(if my computer would work i would have a pic)

And the knock went away for like a minute, then i shut it off and started it back up and it was knockin again.

But my elec. fuel pump is really loud when i first turn the key(as its pumping fuel to the carb) but once its got fuel it quiets right down.

but i was thinking that when i rev it, the fuel pump is pumping more fuel, and is making that noise.(because both noises sound the same)

Idk though, im just gonna run it till she pukes.

took it out on its first out-of-the-yard off road trip!

we towed it out to the sands plains, about 3mi from my house..
Image

Then we stopped and got some gas for the bug, there was alot of people wondering what it was, and alot of questions and people thinking it was cool. they were all surprised that it was built by a group of teenagers.

so we un hooked it, and i started it up, did a few donuts and we were off, me and my buddy joey in the bug, and my cousin following us in his truck.

so we were flying down dirt roads, and i mean flying! that bug is really quick, my speedo wasnt working but we had to be doing 40mph in 2nd.

so took a break, shut it off, discoverd that my oil leak got alot bigger, went to start it, had no battery power, so we tugg started it(time to put my alt. in.. dont think my gen is working)

Image

we had to do that 3 or 4 times, since we had no cranking amps.

she ran good, up untill the last stretch, all of a sudden i had no power? i would put the pedal to the floors and i had nothing?

(i wonder if that ties into my idling problem?)

So the it would just die out.

looked back and the whole motor is caked in oil. i think my little oil leak drips down onto that pulley and it scatters it all over?

and its coming out of my oil fill cap and breather!

whats going on?

this was all on tuesday night.. havent looked at the bug since... anyone think they know whats up with that oil and the no power?

Image

all in all, fun trip, cant wait to get it running reliable.

a skid plate up front would keep the car from digging into the mud.

Yup, that will come with a new bumper...

Alot of the 4x4 guys use a rubber mat bolted to the front.

Might give that a shot.

Jox,

I hope you "Power" Washed your motor after the mud bath...

Dried mud & air cooled motors don't mix...

Glad to see your getting the baja out of the back 40...

Jox.... Jox.... Jox.....

You need those tree kickers mounted on the front...

You have to be able to judge the width of that Baja better than that...

If you have "Any" doubt at all that it might not fit between two trees...

Go Around ... or.... Back Up.... :?

Ahhh..... You wanted to redo that front end anyway...

Sorry Man... Had to pull your chain...

What Da X#*^ Happened :?:

What’s the damage report :?:

Got the baja up and running today..

Thanks to birddog, we put the new spindle on, saturday night, but we didnt have a good enough allen wrench for that lock nut, untill the morning we got in a little bit tighter and cruised around...

it haulled a load of firewoood back to camp, the rear was squatting pretty good.

Prolly gonna park it for the winter after hunting season, then when spring hits, new seats, new brakes, roll cage and a complette re-wire will come...
