We've been trying to reduce our herd through attrition.
In the last couple of years, we've lost Golden Retriever Ginger at 18 years.

Re: Pictures of your pooch!
Then my 60lb lap dog and Ginger's grand daughter Coco passed at 14 of bone cancer. She was coughing a lot and talking to the vet on the phone she said it was probably a relapse of Kennel Cough she caught one time when she was out for 2 weeks. So we made an appointment. Then before that day, she collapsed one morning and her hind end was paralyzed. We took her in right away and an Xray the vet took without charging us showed that her spine was almost transparent just behind the shoulder, and the cancer had what looked just like tree roots into her lungs. She didn't survive the visit. This photo was taken in 2006 as she rests after a day of hiking the John Muir Trail. She's looking at her paws wondering what in the world happened to them.
Then our elderly little Chihuahua Panchito suffered a collapsed trachea. We didn't know his age because he was a rescue. He appeared to be well over 15. His son just turned 10 the 17th of June. The collapsed trachea was inoperable and he had to be put down. He now resides on our bookshelf in a very nice little wood box.

Coco with our Long-Hair Chihuahua "Minnie". Hiking on the Blue Ridge Trail in the San Gabriel Mountains above Mountain Hi Ski Resort.
Minnie showed up in our back yard on the 4th of July 2007. About 1-2 years old. Signs all around town produced no calls. She got a hugely swollen left cheek this February. We thought it was an infected molar. The vet did too. I left her there for treatment. But when the vet got her sedated and working in her mouth, she found the problem wasn't a tooth. Like Coco, she had bone cancer, this time in her skull. It had penetrated well into her brain. That explained her strange behavior the previous few weeks. She passed while still sedated.

Re: Pictures of your pooch!
We're now down to only 5 dogs.
The old man, Clyde is 19 now and still thinks he's the head bull of the neighborhood. Although he's pretty slow moving now, he doesn't think so.
He is shown here resting in the South Fork of the Kern River during a hike on the John Muir Trail in 2006. He's Coco's grandpa. 3 different kinds of Australian herding dog. 1/2 Kelpy, 1/4 Border Collie, 1/4 Queensland Healer (aka Australian Cattle Dog).
This is Buddy. A very handsome white shepherd. Sometimes very true to his name. Sometimes a punk with an attitude. Rescued him and a couple others 2 years ago from the young couple next door who were getting divorced, the husband wanted to dump the 3 dogs out in the desert. I told him HE is the one who should get dumped in the desert. And I told him that as a lifelong desert offroader, I know some places out in the desert...
My son and a couple of angry friends were right there behind me when that was said.
So we wound up with the dogs.

Another of those rescues from the Jerk, Jack is a lab/Pit mix:
Here with Buddy.
And again by himself:
He has a more lovable personality than Buddy. He's been following me around the house the last little while and is laying beside me as I type this.

Our son just bought a house (he will be 25 next month) so he got a puppy! Meet Ruby, a Lasa Aphso/ Shih Tzu mix...

Re: Pictures of your pooch!
It is amazing seeing how long some of you have been on here contributing. Seeing the lifespan of some of these pups really drives the point home. I've had a few labs. All were great, the flaws that some had were directly attributable to me. Lucy is the best of the bunch, I'm finally figuring a few things out.
