Your so right Chris! It took me a while to figure that out though, I'am slow is my excuse
With a long enough 'Dremel' you might be able to reach it was my guess, but maybe for next years try
i hope i can be there on april 28. want to meet you in person walter.
wishes.
ps: i asked jose alvarez yesterday how fast he could destroke a 69mm crank to 64mm...but i would have it in my hands in 5 weeks or later. not enough time to make a lateral entry. so still boring 1641cc twin scroll.
but i gess the gas milage would be better in your havy car than a 1200cc.
Likewise Kumpel
Milage with the 1200 will be one of the things that really interest me and is part of my own 'Challenge'. I hope I can do enough miles to do some measurement on mpg.
A destroked 69mm with 1600 rods would be the ultimate for strength I think in comparison to the stock 1200 crank and rods. Stronger/cheap rods can be had with the thinner 1600 journal then also.

Walter

HvX: It has euro-only 1300 dp heads: same valve sizes as 1600dp, just smaller bore for the 77mm cylinder

What happened to your 2.2, just set aside for now?
Yes, set aside till after the dyno challenge. Gave me opportunity to check it out and rethink some things.
Allthough its in fine condition, plugs looked all equally well too, I just may 'upgrade' to another cam, cooling and flywheel/clutch system...can't help it

Was able to get a lot done this weekend
and everything fits under the engine lid!
Well, my engine lid anyways

Redid the throttle body: changed it for a Ford one and made it fit.

Why did you choose to do that?

At 30-35% rotation of the butterfly, I was still on the idle circuit with the Mex TB...
The Mex TB is just not a performance item in my book. Its made for smooooth transitions. This Ford TB immediately gave me more respons and more usage of the TP-range in the map.
YMMV, but I like this much better.

Great, I have sold lots of the Mexican parts and usually just add a long adjustment screw for the butterfly that gets it past that factory idle teardrop in the throttle body. I put the throttle plate right at the top of that.
I am still using one on my 2276, Now that I got a set of the new CB turbo end castings I have been thinking about moving upto a 50 or 55 since I am making lots of other changes too.

Sweeet!
That Safeguard output might also be usable as a feed to MSknock sense, which MAY allow per-cylinder retard again if you are set up for sequential ignition... Not really how it was meant to be used, but there's not much reason it couldn't be used simply as an advanced knock sensor box, as that's the main thing MSknocksense lacks.
Half baked idea, anyway.

Great to learn you have encountered that 'feature' of the mex TB as well. I thought I was alone in my struggle
I think its easier if you use MAP as main load, but since I don't do that (just stubborn), I only got to use half of the 20x14 map..
Thanks for sharing!

Great work wally like all of your engines;)
what will be the price of this engine or when you don't sell it thenwhatwould be the parts price.
With how much boost and max rpm you hope to get 200 hp?
thank you.

Joosep,
Thanks! Lets not discuss costs or prices of our hobby projects
I think max hp will be at about 1,3 bar boost and 6500-7000 rpm with this combo.
If I can get there with those parameters and the engine stays in one piece, I should be close to 180-200 hp _I think_ ...
However....there exists very little comparative material, so who knows, it may just do 120-150 hp at that boost...
'First' start still on start-up map:

Do you really beleve it? I don't we all know your 2,2 and love it.
lets take a 30hp for a start....you double the rpm range. Lets say 60 hp as high spinning na 1200 now we add 1,3 bar of boost and you have atleast 140.....I cant forget your headwork, cam, good and soon well tuned efi, nice intake, right size exhaust and we are near 200 as you mentioned. I'm sure you don't stop adding boost before 200
I would bet 200 with longlasting or around 240 for drag pull when we are talking about your engines
Good luck with your engine
OT...I had an idea for 1200T turbo few years ago because our drag rules say that for 1600T my car should weight about 920kg with me but it weights only 85o For 1200T it should weight excact 850 with me but I decided do buid it for myself not for drag so now I hope to get the weight near 800 not 1050kg what rules say for 2,0 T
Whats the weight difference of your ca with 2200 vs. 1200?

nice video walter! love to here it to the first time...only thing is it does not sound like it would peak over 6000 rpm. but lets see how that sounds with good tune and when the boost comes.
good luck! my gearbox will come during the next weeks so i hope to see you on the dynoday!!!

Yeah, it didn't run too well, but after all it was sort-of the first run.
After I exchanged a spark plug lead that had non-measurable resistance, it explained one plug getting clogged.
So, second run was mucho better (I think) and also starts better now
