I done all that math a few years ago, garrett now do an app that will do it all for you! I have no idea what my mpg was before, but 25's not bad for a 30+ year old car with a little extra zip from a turbo!

agreed!! That was before the tune with the LC-1. I think it is a little better now. I have a 56 oval that has no fuel gauge so i have to run up front with my stick and check every other day, but so far I am impressed by the power, torque, and economy. Next is the Megajolt ignition and slowly progress toward fuel injection. Have you driven your car yet?

soooooo after getting her running i started the long road of tuning, installed the AEM wideband AFR sensor in the exhaust, started it up idled around 11.5:1 so thats good, but once i held it up in the revs a little it was running VERY lean, like 15-17:1!! soi pulled the main jet, it was a 120, swapped it for a 125 ran too rich 10:1, had a little fiddle with the 120 that ran lean and got it to run around 10.5:1 went too far! so i called up a mike at http://www.gt-turbo-spares.co.uk/ and had a nice long chat with him, told him everything i knew and he asked me some stuff, that resulted in me buying two new solex main jets in 120, 125, a .9 air corrector jet and a rebuild kit. seems a very knowledgeable chap, i would highly recommend calling him not only for his input but also because he holds a lot of solex jets in stock, something i found hard to find here in the uk!

it wasnt making any boost yet either, thought i'd make a quick vid

now on to my big fail.......
after i had run the engine a few times on the floor, i was tidying my stuff in the garage i noticed oil at the back of the engine, i instantly knew what was wrong...... i forgot to put the rear crankshaft seal in!! oil everywhere. so now i need to remove then flywheel re-torque it!

You won't build any boost unless you put a load on the engine. It will more than likely take at least 2nd gear to get any good boost reference.

Third gear is where the load comes on enough to show whether it is running rich or lean and that is where you will be working on your jetting.

If it goes lean just running the throttle in the garage you need to work on your idle jetting or your accelerator pump shot.

Put it in the car and drive it.

If you didn't have the carb running on the engine without the turbo it will be way off since it is not even set up for that engine.

Work on your idle circuit first. That works up to 2500 rpm or a bit more.

Which carb is it???

Solex 32 dis from a Renault 5 gt turbo. The guy I spoke to today said similar. The biggest obstacle I face at the moment is with the laws over here I can't drive on the road to test it without MOT, road tax and insurance so I'm looking at laying out at least £400 just for the pleasure of being able to test it on the open road :( I'm a little stuck really

Work on the idle circuit.

That will probably need a smaller one.

Is that a 2 barrel carb or a single???

Never mind, I searched in yahoo.

Here is a link to a page that has drawings of the internals.

This will give you and idea how it works since you will need to become very intimate with that carb to make it work.

Here is a thread on it in STF.... not a lot of info but it's nice to see what others have tried so you don't waste time testing things others have done.

Good bloke that Mike. He helped me out with mine and I've heard nothing but good stuff about him on VZi.

Any really close MOT stations? I'd wind the boost right down to nearly nothing and just limp there. Or alternatively, and the approach I like, is book an afternoon MOT, a decent distance away, then set off a few hours early with all your tools onboard. You're all legit then.

Wow, here in the state of WA. I just drive my car with no plates, tabs, insurance or whatever. When my engine is in and running, i am driving it! No matter what the laws say. If I get tossed in the slammer, oh well...... warm food, shelter, good conversation and who knows, maybe some lovin! :)

Stripped and rebuilt the carb, changed the main jet for a 125 and the air corrector for a .9, fired her up. still rich on idle so I need to do some more reading and research! Got some boost going on, not much but it was highly addictive just revving it up and hearing the BOV.
I made a little vid for y'all to share in my child like excitement.
