Re: 2276 build
I think the engine in my car now has 10mm and the virgin case I have has 8mm. I'm all for getting some good chromoly studs, but I assure you I won't spend $500 on them.

Re: 2276 build
I used 10mm chromoly on my old engine. Currently, my street engine is stock 8mm, but I won’t be running over 13psi so I’m not worried (and I’m not racing it so it isn’t holding sustained boost for long). My next race engine will be 10mm chromoly head studs using autocraft heads and going in a TF1. That set up should hold whatever i throw at it!

Re: 2276 build
If u pull out one of the 8mm the insert has more holding/meat good size threads compared to a stock 10mm

So a non case saver 10 is preferred over an 8 with case savers?Chip Birks wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 5:12 am There is a reason chromoly and other better studs exist though guys. Stock 8mm studs do break or stretch under big loads. I don't have racewares in mine, but I do have a half priced copy that is NLA made by bugpack. I have them for both turbo engines. I trust throwing big power at them way more than stock 8mms. 10s are a different story. I've seen guys make low 8 second passes in the 1/4 mile with stock 10mms.

no,i see guys over torque 10mm's and pull the threads all the time
remember you won't be running 30 lbs of boost with a 2276 unless u have a death wish?
no need for that , 12-15 lbs is purdy fast for them fla. roads,, I'll bet $$ on it

Can you get 10's with savers on a 94mm? Isn't much meat left on there.

New aluminum cases come with both 8 and 10mm savers. Just gotta pick what you want. Mag cases can swap savers until it's cut into them, then you are stuck.

Re: 2276 build
Well balls. I read an old thread I had yesterday and I mentioned buying pistons for a 1915. I could have sworn I bought pistons for an 82mm stroke. I measured them and sure enough they are" A" pistons.
So since I have the pistons I may go ahead and put my old engine back together. I mistakenly bought standard bearings for the current engine, so I have those too. Really all I will need is heads. Probably should build a header too. My current 1 3/8" is likely too small too. I will reuse the Web 163 cam that's in the 1600.
I have the 19t turbo now that is too much for the 1600, and the cam is too much for the 1600 too. I think they will be perfect for a 1915. Just need to pick up some cheap heads.
