A properly setup TO3 2276 with EFI can get you into the high tens in a 1980# car. That is the max out of the TO3 super 60 which is the largest of the TO3's. Where's the intercooler... gotta have it with the benefits of EFI.

so yer buddy had a cudda, huh? was it a hemmy cudda? bwahahaha!!! thats funny!!!! thats as original as yer nickname!!! look kid-- a mild 1776cc is about all you need to begin with- i know its fun to fantasize about 400hp motors and all that, but try and keep your head out of the clouds until you have a little expirience-- 400hp will kill you unless you know what yer doin!! not to mention, power from a VW motor averages about $30-40 per HP, so how much can you afford?

no a mild 1776 isnt all i need to start with...ive driven a mild 1776 on more than a few ocasions...and it just isnt enough. and i already siad i wasnt going to Turbo the 2276 so with a NA 2276 it would get about 180Hp...and dont tell me that is not posible and it wont be reliable, cause i well know it is.

150ish HP in a turbo bug is enough to make you wana sh*t yourself when the boost creeps up on you and all the sudden you see the speedo sweeping around like nothing. Yes, fun, fun indeed.

Didn't this just start as a question about crankshafts? If the guy wants to try and build a drivable 400hp bug then let him. Hell, maybe the guy just won the lottery. None of us know. Hey, if you ever get it done drive it downtown cause I want a ride.

hey 67fastback-- if you knew the history between myself and "sinister", and our somewhat unique yet often abrasive STF relationship, my comment would be much better understood. In another post, or several others actually, I have tried to bring our dear friend "sinister" many calm and sensible words of advice, as he quite simply has been misinformed on many aspects of VW engine building. Now while most often my demeanor exemplifies the epitome of sensible and good-natured, and sometimes harmlessly sarchastic, I am as suceptable to aggravation as anyone. This was one such occasion. And as anyone who reads my posts can tell you, I wish nothing but the best, especially for these younger kids just getting into the hobby. I may not always give the greatest advice, but whats important is the motivation behind giving it. Wasted $$$$ = dissapointment = lost interest in the hobby. Now that is a shame--

Let me throw this into the mix about crankshafts-
Kurt Mezger owns and drives the all-steel, D.O.T.-tired, 1968 Beetle that is generally accepted as the world's fastest STREET car. It was on the cover of VW Trends back in April of 2001, and has run a best, I've-got-the-video-to-prove-it, of 10.06 at a speed of 140.95 miles per hour. And what kind of crank has he run, since he put the car together? Why, it's a DMS ( DeMello Machine Service) welded, counterweighted, FULL CIRCLE crank !!! The same crank has been in that car for over 8 years now, and he keeps sending it back to DMS after every season, and they keep sending it back to him.... WARNING !!! Your results may vary....I just thought I would throw that Full Circle crank into the debate, and see if I can stir things up :-)

unique relationship. that is funny. the very first post that i saw from you towards sinister was something about him copying your username. you told him to be a little more original and to quit copying others. it wasn't sarcastic, cute, or funny. no need to make yourself look good in front of the moderator because he hasn't seen all of your posts because you are ashamed of the truth.

who makes a good crank? easy. Lunati.

hey melba-- im sure your like the STF babysitter or something, but Ive got a question for ya-- with only 34 posts, how in the hell would you possibly know what my first post to "sinister" said? and, being the obvious genious that you are, Im sure you've read ALL of my posts directed to him, especially the ones regarding his thoughts of a 400 hp motor, and your statement was of the highest degree of accuracy. Now- I find the following observation to be of great interest-- your comment was for no particular reason other than to "stir the pot" and cause some sort of meaningless controversey with another member of the STF, with whom you've never had any corrospondence with in the past. (that would be me) So while you're busy flailing accusations at other members without even a subject to involve yourself with, no motive for commentary other than "trouble making", and obviously no clue as to the personalities of those who post here, please try to remember-- some of us usually have a point. (BTW- I gotta thank you for making that post- it was exactly the sort of nonsence 67Fastback was talking about- the whole thing kinda drips with irony, dont you think? and at your expense. now THATS funny.)
