easy rider, I have haggerty. they will insure you, you just need to know what to say. the car has to be garaged or at least car ported and tell them you will drive under 5000 miles. Sometimes they will say that is ok, sometimes they will give you a problem about it. I told them 5000 and they told me ok. My brother told them 5000 and they told him he could only go 2500. Go figure. It really doesnt matter though, as no one is coming out to your house to check your odemeter anyways.
I believe the main reason they turned you down had nothing to do with Jakes engine as it had to do with the fact that you told them no garage and 5000 miles. Zen has his Car insured with Haggerts for $23,000, which includes one of Jakes engines.
Do you have an engine from Jake?

What the hech is the transporter going to do with a phase 9?
Probably just lost it.
Check with grundy and have them send you an application. I would show you mine but I have no scanner. The app states all their requirements. It is unlimited milage, but you do need a garage. You either play thier game or don't play at all. I call it a game because I doubt 1/2 the people they insure are true to thier policy about use, and I am sure the insurance knows it. The other thing to remember with any insurance coverage, If you buy a car its value depreciates and the coverage decreases with it. No insurace shels out the $ for you to buy a new car when you wreck your old one. We like to think our VWs do not depreciate, but that is only true for unmodified cars. If you buy the perverbial VW stored in a barn and keep it there, sure it will appreciate. If you sink 40 Grand into it you can't sell it for that 5 years later especially when 20 grand of it is an engine that now has 60K on it.
My plan is to have my car appraised and then go to my insurance and see what they are willing to do for maximum coverage. Unless the damage is fire or theft, most likely I will be able to take the money and my salvaged car and start over. The other factor we are not weighing is that when we arrive at the value of our VWs we are only thinking parts and not labor If I wreck my ghia and only get 10k from the insurance, sure, I cant have someone else fix it all back again, but, I probabably could buy it back from the insurance as salvage, take the $ and buy another one and between the 2 cars be back on the road as good if not better for it. Again this is not counting the time it would take me. (Hell, I might not do it over again)
The way Jake keeps praising that 912E. I might have to try me one of them for a change!
