The 2270 kit will be available, BUT it won't be with the drastically reduced types of prices. My idea with these small kits is an intro engine that is very easy to build that makes good power and to do so cheaper. the 2270 requires much more mock up and design than this 1911 ever would.
As for this engine in a bus... Its not designed for it, we never advocate the use of 96mm pistons in a bus due to oil temperature issues. I coukld put you together another kit that would be beneficial for a bus just with different configuration.

Can we upgrade some of the components of the kit? Better flowing heads, maybe some CB Super race rods for light weight -high rev applications? I would think the mock up on your end wouldn't be much different, would it?
My application would be for a convertible Ghia that I want to use to learn how to drag race with. I've never raced at a track before and was considering building a 1915 type 1 to start out with, but I've decided to go the type 4 route. I would think that with light weight valve train and lightened components, I could get alot of revs out of a 96X66. I might even bolt up a turbo in the future, when I can handle the added power. I know 96's aren't the best for a turbo, but I figure since it will be a race car, I won't be putting alot of miles on it, and I don't mind pulling the thing apart once in awhile. This project isn't going to start until mid-2005 so I have alot of time to configure and think about stuff.
Thanks,
Steve

Not with this kit...
Simple and easy is the key here to just get started with TIV power.
To upgrade the crank we'd need different journals than stock, and things would get custom really quick.
I plan on making custom, much easier sometime very soon.

I am just glad to know the 2270 kit will be available. I am also waiting to see the results of your "roller 2270" experiment.

Shoot, this kit proves good things come to those who wait!
Dang, Jake could probably collect cores to keep on building these kits forever, there are TONS of 1.7 and 1.8 cores around!!!

Ive got 10 1.7's sitting in my basement collecting dust, I have always thought of doing something along these lines, but i dont have the means to do so. I am glad someone like Jake is going to use these kinds of parts so they dont go to waste. Once you drive a vehicle with a type 4 in it, you will never go back Type 1.

How about a 100HP Type IV for the same cost as a 100HP TI with double the longevity and way less maintenance! Smooth power with a flat torque curve for daily drivers is the main goal with this combo.
I have an absolute TON of 66 stroke cranks, and stock 1.7/1.8 rods. I have all the parts in stock to do four 1911 cc engine kits and I'm gonna sell these puppies cheap as part of my plan to expand TIV engine usage...
These kits will have the following contents and all you will need is a core engine (or I'll sell ya one) and exhaust/cooling I even plan on selling carbs with them in some instances(dual solex 1bbl carbs easy to tune and cheap or even Kadrons)
Hi ,
with the solexes or Kadrons , i could imagine this can be a nice baseline to start a type 3 conversion from . . .
take care,
Fritz

Jake,
Would the Web 86/Johnson lifters, I bought from you, work with the 1911 setup? I would be using 40 Dells for carburation and of course 42 x 36 heads that would come in your kit. Would the Web 86 work with the increase in head flow from the bigger valve size and bring out the full potential from the engine or would the cam limit this potential?

The 86 will work, I can engineer the rest of the components to allow it..

Great idea man! I'm thinking that this may be just the ticket for my needs Jake. It would be a great basic package, e-z 4me to do.
BTW your long distance diagnosis was right on the money, the float was about 1.5-2mm out, temps are now almost dead even when cruising. I still have an annoying oil leak at the pump end that I have to figure out. What sort of oil pressures should I expect when warm at 3500-3700?
I say again, the 914/2270 rocks! BIG GRINS!

If I were to send you a 2.0 crank and rods, 1.7 Q heads, flywheel, and 94mm aftermarket cylinders for boring and trueing as cores, would the price for the kit be somewhere in the 1911 ballpark? Would it even be worth it to upgrade from the 1911 to 2056, and how much more HP would you estimate the gain to be? Still using the Web 86 of course (have to save $$$ somewheres)!
