Jake,
Glad to hear that this is the original Dynoed oil. That would contribute a lot to the oil consumption.
The initial break in is in my opinion the only time you should have much oil consumption. I would wager that after your next oil change you will have considerably less if any oil consumption. I have allways seen that as a sign of a healthy engine.

Back to my earlier question. Does the rod / stroke ratio have a significant effect on oil consumption? If so when does it and can it be compensated for?

Sorry to hear about the total seals. I had hoped they would work. It would be nice to extend the amount of time you have "perfect" compression. Keep up the good work.

Thankyou

Rod ratio does make a huge impact on crankcase pressure and oil consumption in a lot of instances...

This is why I religously stay at 1.65- 1.8:1 for street engines and 2:1 rod ratio for endurance type race engines

Hello Jake,

That statement makes me happy.
I am most often on the "wrong" side with my 82 stroke and 5,9" long rods in most peoples mind. 103 mm bore.
Yes, long rods has it's drawbacks but for sealing and longevity, kindness to your parts, it is really crucial.
Short stroke engines seem to be more sensitive to power and torque curves changes than the 80 plus stroke ones.
If you can afford a custom rod and your engine bay takes it too, you beleive the weight for longer rods is not affecting you too much (strong rod+bolts and not 7000+ rpm) stay with the Bill Jenkins statement from many years back "Put the longest damn rod you can fit"

The huge heavy 4.137" pistons also benefit from the slower piston speed, way less likely to rip out a pin boss!
Short rods have their place and I have some combos that work well up to 80 stroke with a short rod.

Last week I coupled a 69 stroke crank with a 5.5 rod in a Baja 1000 engine!

Hey Jake, another question about the beast. Do you think the 52mm TBs will make it produce more power, or just smoother power and more torque? also, what's the update on the engine and oil change?

The beast now has miles on it and still hasn't been touched..

The 48mm carbs are WAYY too small.. The larger TB will definately broaden the power and produce more top end, especially with the camshaft change that I plan as soon as I finish Beth's engine and The Mighty Spyder project...

That's what I thought. Should be a real Monster for sure!
