Thanks and NICE.
Considering that (I assume) youre running the same gearing as when you have your BIG motors that sounds awesome.
As you recorded that as '1 bar boost' are you planning to go higher?
And when is the dyno session booked for??

As the n/a version had about 70 hp, so easy meth says 1 bar is about 140 hp.
The goal however is (see title): >200hp, so you can see I need to go much higher for that boost wise..
Session with the 1200 group is 28. August
And indeed: its a 1200 T1 VW engine coupled to a G50 911 3,2ltr 5-Speed gearbox

Re: 200hp 1200DP Turbo 'Challenger motor'

After a lot of testing out different duty cycle settings, I finally got to about 1,74 bar boost or about 25.5 psi as you can see in the above datalog.
Boost initially flats out to about 1,5 bar, then later raises to the shown 1,74 so I find that a bit uneasy, but if it works later on the dyno as well that way, I am fine with it.
Target will be about 27 psi (1,85 bar) as I think that is needed for my 200hp goal. It will take a step more duty cycle which I reserve for the dyno as its unknown territory for me: never been to more the 25psi before...
Still its the unchanged 1208cc engine from last year with W110 cam and single springs (and all other stuff is super lightweight)

Re: 200hp 1200DP Turbo 'Challenger motor'
Guys, I did it!
After about 10 years since I took part in the 1200 Challenge, I finally achieved (and as the first it seemed) the 200 hp barrier from the VW 1200 engine at 1200cc (well, actually 1208cc as I needed to get a 0,50mm oversize because my base block had water in some barrels..)
That is what wasted spark does with RPM pick-up from one of the sparkplug leads

And the guys made some awesome trophies!

I gave the boostcontrol 10% extra duty cycle over the last 1,74 bar setting, which normally is a lot of extra boost, but this turbo doesn't seem to want to go much higher then about the 1,80 bar where it landed. Just know that thats already 75% duty cycle, where normally I am just at 30-40% for major boost increases over wastegate boost.
Turbo comes from a Saab 2.0 ltr engine (9-3) so it normally runs at 0,5 - 0,8 bar I think its safe to say. These don;t want to go that far and its probably close to its map-flow boundaries at the top of the flowchart. It can flow lots more power, but not at these boost ratio's... But I made it and thats what counted today
So, after this, the engine comes out of the car tomorrow

Very Nice Wally!!!!

Nice!!!
Your power curve reminds me of.....:

And I think that is really cool to see. Today "everyone" is building turbo engines with power curves very similar to NA engines. Gone is the boosted feeling and I think that is a shame! Give me turbo lag ANY DAY!

It was really funny again as the dyno operator could not get past the idea that I build this solely for this day!
He kept moaning about the terrible power curve. The words 'undriveable' fell several times

He also did say that our group was something he had never encountered with regard to helping each other, our relaxed attitute towards each other, making fun and having a good time, grilling on the site (in front of the dyno room) and offering him a burger as well.
My hero (as he was last year): Hendrik with his heavily modified Fiat running a rather stockish 1641 with W110 (gotta love that) and compound turbo system, both turbo's chargecooled plus water injection! Unfortunately his chinese cheap small turbo had such a small internal wastegate that he suffered boost creep on the small one which (multiplied as its a compound) mutliplied the problem as well and he had 2,4 bar boost at 5K RPM, where the run was stopped (header glowing), but it was 250hp at that point

and that was just one story of the many crazy contraptions of our group doing runs

Suffice to say I had an extremely good time after all this lock-down mishap.

The packaging for that intercooled compound set-up must be tight in the back there. Be neat to see the engine exposed with the rear opened up.

Compound set ups are super interesting.
